Benefits During Grace Period

If my premium payment is late and I am in my grace period, are my medical and pharmacy benefits still available?

If you bought your policy on the Health Insurance Marketplace and get a tax credit that lowers your monthly payment, you are given a 3-month grace period to catch up if you miss a payment.

If your payment is late and you are in months 2-3 of your grace period, this is how it affects your medical and pharmacy benefits:

  • Medical benefits are available to use. However, when the claims are filed, they are put on hold until payment is brought current.

  • Pharmacy benefits are not available to use. Premium payments must be brought current to be able to use your pharmacy benefits.
