The Landlord Law documents are provided in three formats:

  • via our Document Generator

  • in pdf format, and

  • as text on the page which you can copy

Text on the page is generally used where you are likely to change a document quite a lot and we think it will be easier for you to do this in your own word processing program.

For example many of our letters are given to you as text on the page.  For example all the letters in the main Landlord Law letters page.  The text to be copied will normally be in a light grey box with a dotted margin.

You copy the text by highlighting it, then copying it to the clip board and then pasting it into your own  word processing program.

Some Guidance on How to Copy and Paste

Most of you won't need this guidance, but I know a few users are not familiar with computers and keyboards, and so may find it helpful.  It is drafted on the basis that you know absolutely nothing.

First, highlight the text you want to copy.  You can do this by clicking your mouse at the start of the text, holding down the shift key and then clicking at the end of the text you want to copy.  If should then be highlighted.

Second, copy the highlighted text.  You can do this by clicking the edit menu (you will normally find at the top left of your screen) and then clicking copy.  Or you can use the keyboard shortcut for copy.  This is:

  • For PC users: hold down together ctrl and c

  • For Mac users hold down together cmd and c

(Both the ctrl and cmd keys are on the bottom row of the keyboard towards the left).  This will copy the highlighted text to your computers memory (sometimes called the clipboard).

Third, go to your word processing program (or the document you want to copy the text to)

Finally, paste the copied text.  You can do this by going to the edit menu and clicking 'paste'.  Or you can use the keyboard shortcut for paste as follows:

  • For PC users: hold down together ctrl and v

  • For Mac users" hold down together cmd and v

The text should appear.  And thats it!
