Choosing a format: advertorial vs listicle

When to reach for an advertorial versus a listicle — and how to decide if you're unsure.

Written by Ezra from Landra

When you build a page, Landra asks you to pick a format. Both are conversion pages built to turn cold traffic into customers — they just tell the story in different shapes. Here's how to choose.

Advertorial

A long-form editorial story that walks a reader from curiosity to purchase. It opens with a hook, validates the problem, builds trust through education and ingredient or feature breakdowns, introduces your product as the answer, and closes with proof, a comparison, an offer, and FAQs.

Reach for an advertorial when:

  • You're running cold paid traffic that needs context before it will buy.

  • Your product is higher-consideration and benefits from teaching (supplements, skincare, anything with a mechanism to explain).

  • You want a single narrative that carries the reader all the way to the CTA.

Listicle

A numbered list that ranks and recommends — think "7 reasons" or "5 best." Each item makes one point, and together they stack benefits, answer objections, and set your product apart. Listicles are fast to skim and work well for comparison-minded shoppers.

Reach for a listicle when:

  • Your audience is comparison shopping or scanning rather than reading top to bottom.

  • You want to hit several distinct benefits and objections quickly.

  • You're testing a punchier, more scannable angle against a long-form page.

Not sure?

Start with an advertorial — it's the most versatile format and the one to reach for first when in doubt. You're never locked in: you can build the same brand as a listicle in a separate page and run both, then let your results decide. Many brands keep one of each in rotation and lean on whichever performs better for a given audience.
