Can I choose my excess?

Yes! You can usually choose your excess when you take out your policy or at renewal.

Excess options available: £49, £99, £149, £199, £249.

Co-payment excess options available: 0%, 10%, 25%.

Picking a higher excess can sometimes lower your premium, while a lower excess gives you more immediate cover.

Does changing my excess or cover mid-policy affect when it starts?

If you choose your excess when you first take out your policy, or at renewal, it applies straight away with no waiting period.

However, if you want to change your excess, co-payment, or overall cover limit partway through your policy year, a waiting period may apply:

  • Decreasing your excess or co-payment: a 10-day waiting period will always apply.

  • Increasing your excess or co-payment: a 10-day waiting period will only apply if you've already made a claim, or your pet has suffered from a medical condition, during the current policy year.

  • Increasing your overall cover limit: a 10-day waiting period will always apply to the new, higher limit.

  • Decreasing your overall cover limit: no waiting period, as long as you haven't made a claim and your pet hasn't had a medical condition during the current policy year.
