Not to worry! If your pet is not yet chipped, you can have your pet chipped after your insurance starts, or even after you have submitted a claim. Any submitted invoices will be on hold until we receive the chip number.

Once your pet is chipped, and you have shared the chip number with us, our claims team can process all of your claims, even those submitted prior to chipping.

Why is a microchip important?

✔️ A microchip is essential as it allows for clear identification of your pet during medical treatments. This is useful for insurance as we can verify that the treatment was done to the insured animal.

✔️ Additionally, a microchip is incredibly useful if your pet ever gets lost, runs away, or goes missing in an emergency (e.g., a fire or natural disaster). With a registered microchip, your pet can be identified and hopefully reunited with you quickly.

To ensure this works, make sure the chip is registered with a pet database such as Tasso or Findefix (these are the top two registers in Germany).

✔️ Lastly, if you plan to travel or relocate with your pet, the chip number must be recorded in their EU pet passport to allow entry into other countries.

Does Lassie cover the cost of microchipping?

Yes! 👍 Our preventive care budget, available within our health insurance plans, can be used to cover microchipping costs:

  • Mini Plan: €35 per insurance year

  • Midi Plan: €100 per insurance year

  • Maxi Plan: €140 per insurance year
