Video Setup Best Practices

Lumiere can be leveraged to uncover any number of insights into your video.

Updated over 2 months ago

Introduction

It's important to note that Lumiere is not a cookie-cutter application designed to give every user the same metrics to measure their videos' performance. The best design of your video is dependent upon the type of content you're testing and the insights you're looking to uncover. Below, you'll find some settings to consider when setting up your video, and how you should orient them to capture the metrics you value most.

General Video Settings

Scrubbing and Speed Controls

Scrubbing refers to a viewer's ability to move freely throughout the video timeline both forward and backward.

Speed controls refer to a viewer's ability to watch your content at 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, or 2x speed.

To access these settings:

  1. Navigate to your video's setup

  2. Enter the Settings tab on the very left side of your screen

  3. Locate and adjust the Scrubbing and Speed Control settings

Considerations

Scrubbing

  • Allowing viewers to jump forward could lead to them missing key context within your video and therefore not having all the information they need to give accurate reactions/question responses.

  • If Retention is a Key Performance Metric for your organization, then you should keep scrubbing on for your video. On your video's insights dashboard, you'll see where viewers spent the most time watching and which areas of the video they may have skipped.

Speed Controls

  • Keeping viewers from using speed controls keeps the original video formatting intact so that your viewers have the same video experience as someone who would come across your content on TV or online.

  • Giving viewers the use of speed controls makes your video more accessible to viewers who may need to watch your content at a slower pace. Allowing users to watch at different speeds also gives viewers the freedom to watch their way.

Questions

Required Status

Each question you add has the option to be set to Required, meaning viewers must respond to the question before continuing the video.

To toggle on the Required setting for a question:

  1. Navigate to your video's setup

  2. Enter the Question tab on the very left side of your screen

  3. Select a question to enter its controls

  4. Toggle on 'required'

Considerations

  • Setting every question to 'required' will ensure each viewer responds before advancing

  • Adding too many questions to your video can distract viewers from the content you're testing

  • Adding too many questions to your video can increase the Length of Interview (LOI). Increased LOI may increase the cost of the recruited sample and/or lead to interview fatigue. Interview Fatigue is when viewers will get tired of answering so many questions. This can lead to inaccurate or incomplete data, and even viewer drop-off (lower retention).

Hide Video

The 'Hide Video' setting can be applied to all question types other than Hotspots. When toggled on, the video frame behind the question feature will be blurred to hide the content.

To toggle on the Hide Video setting for a question:

  1. Navigate to your video's setup

  2. Enter the Question tab on the very left side of your screen

  3. Select a question to enter its controls

  4. Toggle on 'Hide Video'

Considerations

  • You may want to enable this control if you're asking your audience a Quiz Mode question or recall question where the video content may give away the answer to your viewers (such as the name of the brand featured, a character or actor featured, or other information that's shown in the video frame).

  • If you want your audience to be able to see the content behind the question to make an informed selection / submit an informed question response, then leave this control disabled.

Reactions

Choosing the right Reaction type to add to your video is an important decision. Each Reaction type will give you different metrics to measure your content. See below the metrics you'll capture with each Reaction type.

Comments

Total Comments

The total number of comments submitted by your audience. Comparing this metric across scenes or videos can show you which scene or video was most engaging for your viewers.

Comment Summary

Our advanced AI will give you a summary of what your audience is saying about your content. Whether your video has 20 comments or 2,000 comments, Lumiere will make it easy for you to understand have your audience has received the content as a whole.

Sentiment

Using advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP), Lumiere will assign each comment left on your video a sentiment score and categorize them as either Positive, Negative, or Neutral. You can view the sentiment of each comment left on your video and the average sentiment of all comments.

Secondary Feedback (If Applicable)

Adding a secondary feedback mode to persistent comments can give you additional context for your audience's comments. You'll see not only the total comments left on a video/scene but the average rating or top emoji submitted for the video/scene as well.

Retention

Retention refers to the percentage of total watch time consumed by your viewers. This metric will show you which parts of the video your audience went back to watch the most, which parts they may have skipped, or where in the video they stopped watching entirely.

Heat Map

With Comments, viewers click directly on their screen to leave their thoughts. On the insights dashboard, you can see where each comment was initiated on your video, giving you insight into the most eye-catching parts of your content.

Emojis

Total Emojis

The total number of Emojis submitted by your audience. Comparing this metric across scenes or videos can show you which scene or video was most engaging for your viewers. Comparing the type of emojis submitted from scene to scene or video to video can show you what emotional response your audience has across these different parts of your content.

Retention

Retention refers to the percentage of total watch time consumed by your viewers. This metric will show you which parts of the video your audience went back to watch the most, which parts they may have skipped, or where in the video they stopped watching entirely.

Key Moments

Our advanced algorithm will identify snippets of your content with a statistically significant difference in engagement compared to the content around it so you can see what moments were most, or least engaging to your viewers.

One Touch

Total Touches

The total number of touches submitted by your audience. Comparing these metrics across scenes or videos can show you which scene or video was most engaging for your viewers.
