How to Delay Task or Advance Task

A task can be delayed or advanced based on the actual work progress on site.

A delayed task will affect the Start Date of the next Task if there is a successor and might delay the End Date of the Activity.

Delay reasons will be asked when a task has base dates. A task's base dates are set when it enters the Do Week. A task outside the Do Week can also have base dates when it was created in the Do Week and delayed to the date outside the Do Week.

Once the start date of a Task with a base date is postponed, it will prompt you to state the reason for delay and responsible party. This is important to identify the actual causes of the delay and carry out suitable mitigation plan.

If the Task is created outside the Do Week, for any delay it will not prompt to state the delay reason and responsible party, since it does not have base dates yet.

The following steps to Delay Task / Advance Task:

  • Under Lookahead view, double click on the Task bar

  • Click on Edit Task Icon (pencil)

  • Setting Start Date to the past of existing Start Date will advance the Task and setting it to the future will delay the start of the Task

  • To delay a Task end date, increase its duration

  • To advance a Successor Task, its dependency with predecessor task needs to be disabled

  • Any change done will be reflected in the Masterplan and Lookahead immediately

Another way to easily delay the tasks is to Click the task bar in the Lookahead and Drag it to the desired date. (See Video below)

Task can be moved or extended the same way as activity as shown in the video.

The steps to Delay / Advance an Activity is similar to Delay / Advance a Task. Read 3.15 Delay Activity / Advance Activity to know more.
