Plan Reliability (Overview)
The plan reliability charts provide project teams with insights on the reliability of the plan. To put it in simple words, if 5 activities are planned to start on 5 specific dates and only 3 of them start according to the plan, it means that the reliability of the plan is only 60% based on activity start dates as 2 of the planned activities didn't start as planned.
Lean PlanDo provides plan reliability based on the below three parameters:
Start Date
Duration
End Date
Figure 1 (click on the image to enlarge):
In the above Figure 1, the first chart shows the plan reliability based on activity start dates. It can be seen that 50.5% of activities started as planned but 43.4% of them got delayed compared to their originally planned start dates. 6.1% of activities were advanced compared to their start dates as well. The same info can be derived from the other 2 pie-charts showing plan reliability based on activity duration and end dates. In conclusion, the higher the percentage in planned (blue) and earlier (yellow) sections, the better is the reliability of plan leading to on time project completions.
