TL;DR: Make learning exciting by weaving your child's favorite hobbies, like Minecraft or Space, into their daily lessons and projects using SparkAI.
Every parent knows that a child who is excited about a topic learns faster and remembers more! At LearnSpark, we use those passions to make schoolwork feel like a personal adventure by including your child's Interests in every lesson.
Personalization is a core part of the LearnSpark experience. SparkAI takes the unique hobbies you add to a student's profile and uses them to create engaging content across the platform.
Instead of a boring math problem about apples, SparkAI might create a challenge about trading emeralds in Minecraft or exploring distant galaxies. This keeps your student engaged so they can reach their goals faster.
What are Student Interests?
In LearnSpark, kids' passions are simply called Interests. These are the "secret sauce" that make lessons feel personal and fun.
Whether your child loves dinosaurs, baking, or robotics, SparkAI uses these topics to wrap educational goals in a story they already love. This works for everything from long division to creative writing.
💡 Good to know: Using an interest doesn't change the academic difficulty. Your child still learns the same important skills, just in a way that feels like play!
How to Update Your Student's Interests
To get the most out of your LearnSpark experience, you should keep your child's profile up to date. Follow these steps:
From your sidebar, click on the Students tab.
Select the specific student profile you want to update.
Scroll to the Interests section.
To add a new interest, type a specific name like "Marine Biology" and press enter.
Click Save Profile to apply the changes.
⚠️ Heads up: If you leave old interests in the profile, SparkAI might still suggest them. Make sure to delete topics your child has outgrown!
How to Apply Themes to Lessons
You can apply a specific theme whenever you are generating a new lesson. Even if you haven't saved a certain interest to a profile yet, you can add it on the fly.
Go to the Lessons tab and click Create New Lesson.
Select the student(s) who will be participating.
In the Interest/Theme field, type in a specific topic you want to use today.
Click Generate with SparkAI. That's it—you're all set!
SparkAI will immediately build a lesson plan where every example is woven together with your chosen theme. This works for Projects and Adventures too!
Tips for Better Personalization
To make the most of these features, try these helpful strategies:
Be Specific: Instead of just "Games," use "Roblox" or "Chess." SparkAI is very smart and can even include specific characters or rules!
Connect to Adventures: When planning a day trip, use the is_learning_day checkbox. This tells SparkAI to tailor the activity to your child's learning goals and interests.
Provide Feedback: After a lesson, use the feedback form to share performance ratings and notes. This personalizes your LearnSpark experience by helping the system understand what worked.
Manage Your Credits: Generating and regenerating lessons uses SparkAI credits. Keeping your info up to date helps SparkAI perform better gap analysis for your student's mastery profile.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many interests can I add to a profile?
You can add as many as you like! However, we recommend keeping 3 to 5 active ones. This helps SparkAI stay focused on what your child currently loves most.
Does updating interests cost SparkAI credits?
No, simply saving names in the Interests list does not use credits. However, generating a lesson, project, or activity plan that uses those interests will use SparkAI credits.
What if my child has a very unusual hobby?
SparkAI knows about many different topics. For very rare hobbies, it helps to provide a tiny bit of context in the interest field, like "Gubbins (a specific dice game)."
Can I change the theme after a lesson is generated?
Yes! If you want to try a different theme, click the Regenerating options or create a new version of the lesson with a different topic. Please note that regenerating a lesson uses SparkAI credits.
Can different kids have different interests?
Absolutely! Each student has their own unique profile. One child might love "Ancient Egypt" while another is into "Robotics." SparkAI tracks these separately for every student. Great job!
