How to import gift cards with balances

If you want to keep using outstanding Gift Cards from an existing program, the data can be imported so you can continue using them.

To import gift cards with balances, you will need to conduct two separate imports. First, you'll have to do a Giftcard import to get the cards in the system, and then you will need to conduct a Giftcard Transactions import to update their balances.

  1. Navigate to Imports

    • Go to 'Data' and select ‘Imports’.

  2. Start a New Import

    • Select ‘New import’ and choose ‘Giftcards’ as the import type then proceed.

  3. Upload the Gift Card File

    • Select your gift card file (ensure it is in CSV format).

    • Click ‘Next Step’ to proceed.

  4. Mapping Columns

    • Under ‘Data’, select which columns in your file correspond to the attributes required. You will need two: the code of the Giftcard and the date of expiry.

    • Click ‘Assign' on your column and choose the corresponding attribute.

  5. Configure Information

    • Under the ‘Options’ tab, decide whether the gift cards are upgradable.

    • Assign the gift cards to a gift card program and click ‘Next Step’

  6. Complete the Import Process

    • Click on ‘Import’ to start your import

Once the process has been completed, you can navigate to 'Store' -> 'Giftcards' to see if your cards are imported correctly. Then, complete a Giftcard Transactions import to add balances to your cards.

The steps to complete a Giftcard Transactions import are the same as a Giftcard import however the mapped values are different. You need to map

  • Code of the Giftcard

  • Amount in cents of the transaction

The gift cards have now been imported and upgraded!
