What is a Legal Discovery Session?
A Legal Discovery Session is a 45-minute session for clients to speak with legal structuring experts from the Legal Nodes team.
During this session, you can discuss your business needs and ask questions about regulations and different options available for your business.
The session is not used to provide clients with legal advice because legal advice is always specific to a certain jurisdiction.
If you request advice on an aspect of your needs in a specific jurisdiction, the legal structuring expert will note this down so that these can be addressed by the relevant legal service providers further down the line, if required.
Why use Legal Discovery Sessions?
The goal of the Legal Discovery Session is threefold:
To understand your immediate and long-term business goals and any legal grey areas you may have.
To pin down any jurisdictional preferences you have pertaining to your goals and needs and describe the pros and cons of each jurisdictional option.
To clarify everything has been covered in enough detail for the Legal Nodes team to build your Legal Structuring Options Document.
Who conducts a Legal Discovery Session?
Each Legal Discovery Session is conducted by a legal structuring expert from the Legal Nodes team. The expert hosting your Legal Discovery Session will have plenty of experience in legally structuring projects like yours. For example, if you have a tech startup that is targeting multiple markets, your Legal Discovery Session will be conducted by an expert who has a deep understanding of how similar projects are legally structured and what regulations might apply in your case.
Can I get legal advice during my Legal Discovery Session?
No, the legal structuring experts hosting the sessions are not able to provide any legal, tax, financial, investment, or other advice.
For example, if you asked “should I set up a company in the Caymans?”, your expert can’t say “yes, you should” or “no, you shouldn’t”. Instead, they can tell you if the Cayman Islands is used by businesses and founders in a similar position to you, or if there are other places (Estonia, Delaware, Dubai, etc.) that might offer more suitable solutions.
Can I get general guidance on regulations during my Legal Discovery Session?
Yes, our legal structuring experts can give general information about regulations. For example, they can broadly share information on regulations that might be important for businesses like yours. As this session is designed to be explorative, our experts won't be able to give guidance on specific regulations.
How can I book a Legal Discovery Session?
Once onboarded, speak to your VLO to get help with booking a session. We currently do not offer Legal Discovery Sessions without the purchase of a subscription. Learn more on our pricing page.
