Purpose

The goal of this article is to help you get up to speed with LegalOn's AI-powered My Playbooks (Version 1), which was launched on November 18, 2024.

We will explore the following topics:

1. User benefits of My Playbooks V1

LegalOn's AI-powered My Playbooks delivers a number of user benefits.

Your Standards, AI-Powered

You'll have the ability to define your standards and have LegalOn's AI instantly check any contract against them.

Contract type agnostic

Align contracts with your unique legal and business positions. You can review any contracts, regardless of the contract type.

More Flexible Review Flow

You can select which playbooks to apply — use your own, LegalOn's proven library of 50+ playbooks, or both!

2. The structure of a Playbook alert in LegalOn

A Playbook alert has two components: Playbook instruction and supplementary information.

Now, let's look at how each of these components contribute to the contract review process.

  • Playbook instruction

    • Text field is mandatory and is read by AI;

    • Use case:
      LegalOn sends your Playbook instruction to our pre-trained AI model and uses this information to determine whether your Playbook requirement is met.

  • Supplementary information

    • Text fields include:

      • Model Language

      • Fallback Position

      • Acceptable Fallback Language

      • Escalations or Approvals

      • Other

    • Text fields are NOT mandatory and not read by AI;

    • User case:
      Such information is for reviewers' reference only and will not impact LegalOn's assessment of whether your Playbook requirement is met. For example, you might want to add a note in the "Escalations or Approvals" section to inform teammates of appropriate next steps when Playbook requirements are not met.

3. How to configure Playbook alerts?

Currently, users can only configure Playbooks via LegalOn's web browser.

Below are the steps for adding a Playbook alert:

  • Step 1: click “My Playbooks (new)”

  • Step 2: click “+ Add Playbook”

  • Step 3: fill out Playbook name and click “Add”

  • Step 4: enter Playbook instruction

  • Step 5: enter supplementary information (optional)

  • Step 6: save Playbook alert

You may also copy or move a Playbook alert from one to another Playbook from the configuration page.

💡 Pro Tip:

To get optimal AI-powered review results, check out LegalOn's recommended best practices before crafting your Playbook instructions.

In text entry mode, click on "Tips for Playbook instructions" under "Playbook instruction"

4. Reviewing contracts with My Playbooks (web app)

After the launch of My Playbooks V1, you now have three review options in LegalOn:

  1. review with My Playbooks only;

  2. review with LegalOn's off-the-shelf playbooks only;

  3. review with both My Playbooks and LegalOn's playbooks.

When conducting a My Playbooks review, you can review with one or multiple playbooks simultaneously.

Below are the steps for reviewing contracts with My Playbooks (web app):

  • Step 1: From the Preview screen, select "My Playbooks" under "Review type" (note that LegalOn alerts are selected by default)

  • Step 2: Select the relevant playbooks from “My Playbooks” dropdown

  • Step 3: Click “Start review”

  • Step 4: LegalOn loads review results

When a Playbook alert is expanded, you'll see the following components:

  • Playbook alert status

    • MET: Contract meets your Playbook requirement.

    • UNMET: Contract does NOT meet your Playbook requirement. We recommend double checking for risks.

    • UNSURE: LegalOn is unable to determine whether your Playbook requirement is met or unmet. These are areas that need your attention.

  • Playbook instruction

  • Source language

  • Supplementary information (*)

* Empty text fields under "Supplementary information" will be hidden

💡 Pro Tip:

If you're seeing too many UNSURE alerts, you might want to consider rewriting your Playbook instructions based on LegalOn's recommendations.

Editing Playbooks in LegalOn is straightforward. In fact, it is integrated seamlessly into the contract review process.

Let's say... You want to edit a Playbook alert in "Example General Terms (Buy-Side)".

To achieve this, simply click on the "Edit" button next to the Playbook's name from the Review screen. This then redirects you to the exact Playbook you want to make changes to on the configuration page. After making changes, you can update review to see your new Playbook alerts in action.
