[New] LegalOn Assistant: Overview and how to use it

What is LegalOn Assistant?

LegalOn Assistant is an AI-powered legal chatbot in LegalOn.

It lets you ask questions or give instructions about:

  • Uploaded contracts (excluding My templates and Other files)

  • General legal topics

You can get draft revision suggestions, clause summaries, definitions of legal terms, rights and obligations, and more — helping you complete routine legal work more efficiently.

What you can do with LegalOn Assistant

Examples of what you can ask:

  • General legal knowledge

    • What does [insert legal term – e.g., force majeure] mean and why does it matter?

    • Give me an example of an industry standard termination clause for [insert contract type]

    • Re-write [insert clause] in a manner that is more favorable to [insert position] for [insert contract type]

  • Instructions about an open contract

    • Summarize Article XYZ in simple terms

    • What is the term of the agreement?

    • What’s the most relevant part of Article XYZ for the [insert position]?

    • What are the payment terms in this contract?

    • Which provisions of the contract survive expiration or termination of the agreement?

    • How can this contract be revised to be more favorable to [insert position]?

    • Does the contract include an equitable remedies clause?

    • Where’s the choice of forum provision in this contract?

    • Can you summarize the exhibits?

  • Find specific clauses in uploaded contracts

    • Find service agreements with AAA.

    • Please find damages clauses in contracts other than this contract.

    • Find contracts similar to this one.

    • Find contracts containing language that prohibits subcontracting.

📌 Only uploaded contracts (excluding My templates and Other files) are used as a reference.

Things LegalOn Assistant cannot do

  • Answer about Matters, LegalOn templates, or Electronic contracts

  • Search or explain Contract Risk Check or Compliance Check results directly

  • Consider content that is not yet saved in the contract editor

Important usage notes

  • Answers are for reference only. Always review them yourself, and consult an attorney for legal advice.

  • For long contracts, some queries may fail.

  • Some screens may not support LegalOn Assistant yet — coverage will expand over time.

  • You can provide feedback on the chatbot’s usefulness, but accuracy improvements are not guaranteed.

Security & Data Protection

  • All data sent outside LegalOn is encrypted and not used for AI training.

  • The Chatbot uses Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service (ChatGPT API) securely.

Who can use LegalOn Assistant?

  • All users set to “Enabled” for LegalOn Assistant in your tenant.

How to use LegalOn Assistant

  1. Click the [LegalOn Assistant] icon at the bottom right of the screen.
    → Available on most screens (except for some exceptions).

  2. Enter your question or instruction in free text, or click a predefined suggestion. Click [Send] and wait for the response.

💡 Info

  • You can type up to 1,000 characters per question.

  • For questions related to uploaded contracts, up to 10 contracts will be referenced as the basis for the answer. These appear under [References used in this answer] in the response.

  • You can copy responses using the [Copy] icon.

  • Click [Good] or [Bad] to provide feedback to help improve the AI.

Specifying a contract when asking

When using LegalOn Assistant in:

  • Contract detail view

  • Contract editor

  • Comparison view

👉 You can specify the open contract as the target.
Click [Ask a question about this contract] to pin it as the context.

⚠️ Notes

If you don’t specify a contract when you start, you can’t add one mid-conversation. Start a new chat to change it.

Starting a new conversation or reviewing past conversations

  • Click [New Conversation] to start over.

  • Click [Conversation list] to reopen past conversations.

    • You can rename a conversation via […] → [Edit name].

    • You can delete a conversation via […] → [Delete] (cannot be undone).

💡 Info

Your past questions and answers will be retained even if you navigate away from the LegalOn Assistant screen or refresh the page.

✅ Good examples:

  • “Explain how to terminate this contract.”

  • “Which clauses put us at risk?”

  • “What does the word ‘Indemnification’ mean?”

❌ Won’t work:

  • “Find past matters with Company A.”

  • “Show me template clauses from LegalOn templates.”

  • “List pending signature requests.”


FAQs

Q: Will AI learn from my data?
A: No. Data is encrypted, and no user data is used for training.

Q: Can I ask about unsaved edits in the contract editor?
A: No — please save your edits first.

Q: Can I see multiple rephrased suggestions?
A: No, only one suggestion is shown per question.

Q: How are contracts selected as the basis for answers?
A: Up to 10 contracts most relevant to your question are chosen based on keyword and context.

Q: Can I reply to the Assistant’s answer?
A: Yes — the chatbot remembers one level back. It does not remember older turns.

Q: Can I customize the preset questions?
A: Not yet, but improvements are planned.
