What is the Translation feature?
The Translation feature in LegalOn allows you to translate your uploaded contracts either in full or clause-by-clause.
You can translate between Japanese and English (or vice versa) depending on your contract’s language settings.
There are two translation modes:
Full document translation: Translate the entire contract in one step.
Clause-by-Clause translation: Translate individual clauses as you review or edit.
Important Notice
LegalOn does not guarantee the accuracy of translated content. Please review translations carefully and use them at your own discretion.
If you need a legal opinion on the translation, consult with your legal counsel.
Tables included in your contract body are not reflected in downloaded translation files.
Supported Languages:
Contracts marked as “Other” language cannot be translated.
The available target languages depend on the source language.
How to use the Translation feature
Full document translation
Open the [Contracts] list.
Click the contract you want to translate.
In the File detail view, click the [Translate] button in the header.
From the dropdown, select the target language.
Your entire contract will be translated and displayed on screen.
Note: You cannot change the source language in the Full translation result view.
To change it, return to the contract detail page.
Clause-by-Clause translation
Follow steps 1–2 above to open the File detail page.
Click [Review] to open the file editor.
If your file is PDF format, click [Convert to Word] to convert it first.
Hover over the clause you want to translate. Click the [Translate] button that appears, then select your target language.
How to download a bilingual glossary (Parallel translation table)
You can download a bilingual glossary in Excel format.
Follow the same steps as Full document translation to display the full translation result.
Click [Export to Excel] in the translation result screen.
This downloads a .xlsx
file with the translated text.
Note: Tables in the contract body are not included in the downloaded file.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is my contract data stored at DeepL?
A. The Translation feature uses the “DeepL API” provided by DeepL SE. Under our agreement with DeepL SE, any data sent through LegalOn is not stored and is not used for training the DeepL translation models.
