About Splitting Matters
You can separate emails linked to an existing matter and create a new matter.
For example, if you receive a new matter via a reply to an email in a closed matter, you can separate the email and proceed with handling it as a new matter.
Create a new matter from an email in an existing matter
On the matter details screen, locate the relevant email and click the [Separate] icon in the upper-right corner
Review the displayed dialog box and click [Next]
Enter the information for the new matter and click [Split Matter]
Matter information that includes the email content will be displayed. You can edit it as needed.
The new matter is created, and you will be redirected to the matter details screen.
Note
Only emails that were separated using the [Separate] icon will be moved to the new matter. Existing emails and messages included in the matter timeline will remain in the original matter.
Additionally, any replies received for the email after it has been separated will be linked to the new matter.
Example: If "Email 1" is separated from the exchange in items ①–④ of the timeline
Receive Email 1
Receive Email 2
Post Message 3 to the timeline (post on LegalOn)
Execute the separation of Email 1
(After separation) Receive a new reply email (Email 4) to Email 1 or 2
Items remaining in the original matter
Email 2 (existing received email)
Message 3 (existing posted message)
Items moved to and linked with the new matter
Email 1 (The email used to execute the separation)
Reply Email ④ (New replies received after separation, in response to Email ① or ②)
