🤔 What is a trial session?
Trial sessions are what we use to incentive partners to promote Leland and give potential customers an opportunity to try out coaching for 30 minutes.
For these sessions, you earn your default hourly payout up to $50/hour.
The goal for each trial session is to convert your client to a monthly, bi-monthly, or weekly coaching subscription. If your client chooses to continue with their coaching subscription, you will earn your default hourly payout up to $75/hour.
Sessions in this partnership-exclusive coaching subscription will be 30 minutes unless the client requests a longer session.
If they have more urgent needs, you can also try to sell them a package.
These trial sessions will only be available to partners like LinkedIn and bootcamp attendees.
✅ How do I opt in to trial sessions?
Go to your coaching portal and turn on trial sessions (scroll halfway down until you see the heading below).
Once you’ve opted in to trial sessions, you’ll be able to receive trial opportunities.
These trial opportunities will be available exclusively to you for a short time before they expire. If you don’t accept the opportunity in the given window, we will send the opportunity to other coaches.
The more trial opportunities you accept, the more likely you are to receive additional trial opportunities (up to your desired hourly capacity), so keep an eye out for email and app notifications about new sessions!
💸 Earn bonuses when your trial sessions convert
To ensure we make the most of these trial sessions, we’re offering a set of bonuses for each person you coach who converts to a paid subscription.
For clients who continue with a subscription, you will receive the following bonuses:
$25 if a client pays for a month of 1x a month coaching
$50 if a client pays for a month of 2x a month coaching
$100 if a client pays for a month of 4x a month coaching
If you sell a client a package or additional coaching hours, you will be given a bonus that corresponds to the value of the purchase.

All LinkedIn Premium members can sign up for one free month of Leland, which includes:
1 coaching session (a trial session) from a Leland coach
1 month of Leland+
Personalized coach matching
A 20% discount on their coaching subscription for the next 6 months
Free admission into an upcoming career bootcamp
LinkedIn Premium subscribers get free Leland coaching on the 1x/month plan. They can upgrade to a 2x or 4x/month plan.
These plans are different from subscription offerings we’ve done in the past.
These subscriptions are tied to a specific coach, and want clients to work with the same coach in each session.
If the client requests a one-off session with a specialist coach or if you don’t feel like you’re a good fit for the client’s goals, please message Kristen.
📍Where LinkedIn Premium users sign up for Leland
A LinkedIn Premium member can explore their “Premium features” on the page to the left.
If they click “Explore free benefits” in the bottom right section, they will see the page to the right.
Starting in December, Leland will be listed as a “Premium Perk” with Audible, Calm, Microsoft 365, BetterHelp, and others.
They will then go to a landing page that looks like this:

Upon clicking “redeem your free month,” they will be directed to a survey about their background and goals.
Then, they will see what their free trial includes:
As the coach, you will be sent a trial session opportunity before the client has scheduled a call. Once you accept the opportunity, the client will be able to schedule a time to meet.
If the client decides to continue working with you and convert to a paid subscription, they have three subscription options (see below).
You will receive a bonus for conversion depending on the subscription the client chooses. Everyone coming from LinkedIn will get 20% off their subscription for 6 months.

In addition to the session(s), the subscription price also includes access to Leland+, free admission into an upcoming course (bootcamp), and personalized coach matching.
If you sell the client a package or a la carte hours, prices will be at the standard “Pro” rate, which is $149/hour. Hours purchased in bulk through a standardized package will be discounted 5-25%.

Review any information we've collected about the client (in your inbox on the right-hand side). The client will have written a couple of sentences about their goals in the initial survey.
2️⃣ Reach out
Message the client before the trial session to learn more about their background and goals.

Build trust and make a genuine connection. Clients are much more likely to convert when they feel you care about them as a person.
Questions to ask:

What area of your career or life do you want to focus on improving?
What do you hope to get out of this coaching session?

Goal-oriented sessions
If the client is working towards a specific goal, focus on offering specific insights and building a plan to accomplish the goal.
Career development sessions
If the client is trying to make a decision or define their career goals, focus more on thoughtful questions.
➡️ Identify a clear path forward
Agree on specific tasks the client will work on between sessions.
Discuss what you plan to work on in the next session and when the session will be.
Examples
Explain how you would approach helping the client reach their goals.
First, we can focus on finding some jobs you want to apply for. Then, we’ll build a networking strategy and refine your resume. How does that sound?
Explain how coaching subscriptions work, and encourage them to upgrade if they need more frequent support.
Based on our discussion, I recommend upgrading to the 2x/month subscription plan.
Since you’re not working towards a specific deadline, I recommend the 1x/month plan. Next month, we can focus on building communication skills.”
Encourage them to schedule their next session during the call.
“If you’d like, you can go to your dashboard and schedule another session. I can adjust my availability if you can’t find anything that works for you.”

After each call, you can recommend the following options to your client:
The client won’t receive a discount when they purchase a package or hourly coaching, and you’ll be compensated the same LinkedIn-standard rate for all offerings a client purchases, so in most cases, recommend the client purchase a subscription.
LinkedIn clients can be on one of three subscription plans:
1x/month: one 30-minute coaching session per month - $119/month after discount
Each client is on this subscription during their free trial, so it is the default option, not an upgrade option.
2x/month: two 30-minute coaching sessions per month - $149/month after discount
4x/month: four 30-minute coaching sessions per month - $299/month after discount
All subscriptions include the additional Leland perks listed above.
You can send something like this to clients if they want to understand all their options:

👎 What if the client no shows or is unresponsive?

After a trial session's scheduled start time passes, give the client at least 7-10 minutes to join the call. (Multi-task if you'd like!) At that point, if you leave the call, you'll see a "report no-show" button. If you choose to report a no-showing LinkedIn client who's on a free trial, they will lose their 30-minute time balance, and we'll compensate you $10 for the inconvenience. This will happen automatically (with a short delay) after you click the button. To help us differentiate no-show sessions from sessions where you delivered coaching, please don't log the time.
If the client still wants to get coaching from you, they can purchase coaching time like any other client — and you'll still receive a bonus if the client converts to a paid subscription at the end of their trial.
If the client is unresponsive after 2 or 3 messages, leave them in your inbox until the 30-day trial has ended. Then, you can archive the client.
💡Important Notes
If the client has an urgent deadline and strong willingness to pay for coaching services, you can recommend a standardized package or a la carte coaching hours. If you are unsure what to do, please message Kristen or Erika.
If the client has specific goals that don’t fit your areas of expertise, let them know you’ll help them find a coach that’s a better fit for their next session. You’ll still receive a conversion bonus when the client schedules their next session.
