The image library is a repository of, well, images! Once an image has been added to the library it can be used to decorate lesson cards and backgrounds, or used as content when building a lesson.

How to Access the Image Library
The Image Library is located in Lessonly's navigation menu. Select the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the Lessonly interface. Admins and users with company permissions can access the library.
Managing Your Images
In the Image Library you'll see a thumbnail of each uploaded image. You'll also see:
The total number of images in the library
A button to upload new images
A search field to help you find images in large libraries
The total number of times an image occurs in your content
💡 Important Note: As of this writing, images cannot be uploaded in bulk.
Click any thumbnail to launch its submenu. Here you can see the image's file name; preview the way images display as topic, lesson, or path cards; and see the lessons or paths in which the item appears. You can also delete the image or replace it.
When replacing an image, changes made to that image will apply everywhere the image is used. When deleting an image, you can choose to erase the image from the library only, leaving it in content to which it's been added, or delete the image everywhere it occurs.
Accessing the Image Library From the Lesson Builder
To insert an image from the library when building a lesson, select the Image element from the element menu, then click Select From Image Library to launch the image browser. You can also search by filename to find the image you want to use.
If you choose to upload a new image from the lesson builder, you'll be given the option to add the image to your library or keep it independent.
💡 Tip: Images cannot be renamed in Lessonly. Upload files with memorable names and relevant keywords to make them discoverable in your image library.
Setting Cover and Background Images
Cover and background images can be added from the settings menu on the lesson or path overview.
Cover images appear on lesson, path, and topic cards in the Learn tab.
When cover images are added to certification paths, learners will see the image on the Learn tab and in the path header, as pictured below.
At this time, only certification paths have header images. This is to help learners differentiate them from regular paths.
Background images sit behind a lesson, adding color and visual interest.
Whereas lessons can have both cover images and background images, paths and certifications are limited to cover images only.
Best Practices
For recommended image sizes and formats, see this article.
Use the Image Library's search function to avoid duplicating images.
Give images memorable names and descriptive keywords to make them discoverable in your Image Library. It may be tempting to skip this step, but images cannot be renamed once they've been uploaded to Lessonly. Keeping your library organized will save you a lot of time and trouble down the line. Your future self will thank you!
Looking for free stock photos? Try Unsplash or Pixabay. If you need icons, try the Noun Project. Please note that these are third-party providers. They are not endorsed by, nor affiliated with Lessonly by Seismic.
It's not possible to set a global background image. If you want all lessons to feature the same background, you'll need to add the same image to each lesson.
