Migrate data from IT Glue to Lexful using the Lex migration Windows app

This article walks through how to migrate your IT Glue data into Lexful using the Lex migration app on a Windows machine.

TL;DR: Download the Lexful Migration app, enter your IT Glue and Lexful credentials, load your IT Glue export, and run the migration. An optional second step captures related item links between assets.

Before starting, make sure you have the following:

📝 For large datasets, the migration may run across several days. IT Glue's API is limited to 9,500 calls per day. The app manages this automatically and resumes after the quota resets.

The migration runs in five stages, all handled inside the app:

Generate or locate your ITGlue full export zip by following the instructions in the following IT Glue help article:

⚠️ If you choose to encrypt your IT Glue export with a password, do not lose the export password. The app validates it locally before uploading and cannot proceed without it.

Download and extract the Lex Migration app: lex-migration-0.3.6-setup.exe.zip

Run the installer and launch Lex Migration once installation is complete.

On the Credentials screen, enter the following:

Check Remember credentials to avoid re-entering these on future sessions. Click Next when done.

💡 Credentials are stored encrypted by the OS and never transmitted outside of the API calls themselves.

On the File screen, you will see confirmation that both IT Glue and Lexful are connected.

Click Next to continue.

The app will work through the following stages automatically:

Progress is shown in real time. You can track the current upload stage and overall progress from the Migration Progress screen.

💡 Notice the API call counter in the top right corner. IT Glue's API is limited to 9,500 calls per day. The app manages this automatically and resumes after the quota timer resets. IT Glue's API quota resets at midnight UTC.

💡 You can close the window at any time by clicking "Minimize to Tray" in the bottom right corner. The migration continues running in the background via the system tray and can be paused or cancelled from there.

💡 You will get an email when the upload process starts, and another email when it completes. If it fails due to an error, you will be emailed the report and can contact support using the "Support" tab in the Lexful UI.

If you cannot access your Lexful tenant, you can use the buttons in the app for Email support, Copy diagnostics, or Show logs at the bottom of the screen to contact Lexful support.

Once the main migration completes, the app will prompt you to extract related items - the links between assets in IT Glue.

Select the asset types you want to capture relationships for:

Choose a Pace for the extraction:

Click Start related items extraction to begin.

📝 Related items extraction makes one API call per record. For large tenants this can take 1-3 days. The app runs in the background and resumes automatically after IT Glue's daily API quota resets.

When complete, the Related screen will show a full breakdown of how many records were processed per asset type.

The left panel in the app shows a log of all past migrations, including upload status, file names, data size, and timestamps. Use this to confirm that both the main migration and related items export completed successfully.

⚠️ Do not run multiple migrations simultaneously against the same Lexful account. If you need to restart a migration, contact support using the "Support" tab in the Lexful UI.
