How to export organization data

This article explains how to export your Lexful account data as encrypted CSV files using the Exports menu.

Written by Jeremiah Hendrickson

TL;DR - Use the Exports menu to generate a password-protected ZIP archive of organizational data, either for all organizations at once or filtered to one or more specific organizations.

Overview

The Exports menu lets you download all account data as encrypted CSV files. Each export produces a password-protected ZIP archive, keeping your data secure in transit.

IMPORTANT: Admin role is required to create an export.

Exports are useful for audits, backups, or sharing data outside of Lexful.

Creating a New Export

  • Open the Exports menu - Select Exports from the left sidebar.

  • Click + New - This opens the New Export dialog.

  • Choose your organizations - By default, All organizations is selected, which exports your full account data. To narrow the export to specific organizations, type in the search field to filter the list, then check one or more organizations.

💡 You can select multiple organizations in a single export. Leave the default All organizations selected if you want a complete account-wide export.

  • Click Start Export - Lexful will begin generating the export. It will appear in the exports list with a Completed status when ready.

📝 Export processing may take a moment depending on the size of your account. The page does not need to stay open while the export runs.

Downloading an Export

Once an export shows a Completed status, click Download in the Actions column to expand the export and show additional options, including the options to download the ZIP archive.

⚠️ Each export is password-protected. Make sure you copy the password from the expanded Download menu, as the archive cannot be opened without the password.

Reading the Exports List

The exports list shows all previously generated exports with the following columns:

  • Export Id - A unique identifier for the export job

  • Status - Completed, Failed, or in-progress

  • Filters - Whether the export was scoped to specific organizations

  • Created - The date the export was generated

  • Actions - Download link for completed exports, or View Error for failed ones

📝 If an export shows a Failed status, click View Error in the Actions column for details. Re-run the export after resolving any issues.
