This article walks through how to migrate your Hudu data into Lexful using the Lex migration app on a Windows machine.

TL;DR: Download the Lexful Migration app, enter your Hudu and Lexful credentials, and run the migration. An optional second step captures related item links between assets.

Prerequisites

Before starting, make sure you have the following:

  • API access enabled on your Hudu account - Hudu API Settings

  • Check the boxes for "View passwords" and "Export data"

    create_new_api_key_2.36.png
  • A Windows computer or VM that can be dedicated to this task

Overview

The migration runs in five stages, all handled inside the app:

  • Credentials - Enter your Hudu and Lexful API keys

  • Orgs - Select which organizations (or all) to import into Lexful

  • Migrate - Run the main data migration

  • Related - Capture related item links between assets

Step 1 - Download and Install the App

Download and extract the Lex Migration app: lex-migration-0.3.6-setup.exe.zip

Run the installer and launch Lex Migration once installation is complete.

Step 2 - Enter Credentials

On the Credentials screen, enter the following:

  • Hudu Base URL and API Key

  • Generate Lexful API Keys from Platform > APIs. You will need your Account ID, Key ID, and Secret Key.

Check Remember credentials to avoid re-entering these on future sessions. Click Next when done.

💡 Credentials are stored encrypted by the OS and never transmitted outside of the API calls themselves.

Step 3

Connection should be verified to Hudu and Lexful - Select specific Organizations, or all, to be migrated.

Step 4 - Run the Migration

The app will work through the following stages automatically:

  • Extracting organizations, locations, and domains

  • Extracting configurations, contacts, and flexible asset types and records

  • Extracting passwords

  • Zipping and uploading the JSON extract

  • Uploading the CSV export

Progress is shown in real time. You can track the current upload stage and overall progress from the Migration Progress screen.

💡 You can close the window at any time by clicking "Minimize to Tray" in the bottom right corner. The migration continues running in the background via the system tray and can be paused or cancelled from there.

💡 You will get an email when the upload process starts, and another email when it completes. If it fails due to an error, you will be emailed the report and can contact support using the "Support" tab in the Lexful UI.

If you cannot access your Lexful tenant, you can use the buttons in the app for Email support, Copy diagnostics, or Show logs at the bottom of the screen to contact Lexful support.

Step 5 - Run the Related Items Migration (optional)

Once the main migration completes, the app will prompt you to extract related items.

Select the asset types you want to capture relationships for:

  • Configurations

  • Flexible assets

  • Passwords

  • Contacts

  • Locations

Choose a Pace for the extraction:

  • Crawl (2/s) - Slowest, lowest API usage

  • Walk (5/s) - Balanced, recommended for most accounts

  • Run (9/s) - Fastest, higher API usage

Click Start related items extraction to begin.

📝 Related items extraction makes one API call per record. For large tenants this can take 1-3 days. The app runs in the background and resumes automatically if there is a daily API quota reset.

When complete, the Related screen will show a full breakdown of how many records were processed per asset type.

Migration History

The left panel in the app shows a log of all past migrations, including upload status, file names, data size, and timestamps. Use this to confirm that both the main migration and related items export completed successfully.

⚠️ Do not run multiple migrations simultaneously against the same Lexful account. If you need to restart a migration, contact support using the "Support" tab in the Lexful UI.
