Collecting something you've reserved? Or returning something you've borrowed? You'll do this on the main screen at Library of Things.

What will I need to collect and return?

Just the email you made your reservation under.

Can someone else pick it up on my behalf?

Yes - someone else can pick up and return the item on your behalf, all they need is the email you made your reservation under.

They will need to pay attention to what the check-out/in screen says, as they'll be responsible for making sure they've got all the parts from the locker for your Thing and that they've locked and secured the locker after they've retrieved/returned it.

I'm collecting a Thing I've reserved

  1. Click 'Collect'
  2. Enter your email (the one associated with your borrowing account so it knows who you are)
  3. Click 'Start Collection' next to the Thing you're collecting
  4. Your borrowing 'checklist' will appear for the Thing you're collecting. This is a list of parts and consumables you may need with your Thing so pay attention to this bit!
  5. Find the location of the Thing - look for the name.
  6. You'll be given a three digit code to open the locker and get your Thing. Turn the lock to open. Make sure you've got all the parts you need. Once you've got everything, close the door, turn the lock and muddle the code.
  7. Picking more than one Thing up? Click 'Collect other Things' button and repeat the process!

I'm returning a Thing I've borrowed

  1. Click 'Return'
  2. Enter your email (the one associated with your borrowing account so it knows who you are)
  3. Click 'Start Return' next to the Thing you're returning
  4. Your borrowing 'checklist' will appear for the Thing you're returning. Make sure you've brought everything back with you.
  5. Any problems to report? Whether it's a missing part or problems with the Thing, let us know.
  6. Find the location of the Thing - look for the name.
  7. You'll be given a three digit code to open the locker and return your Thing. Turn the lock to open. Make sure you've got all the parts you need. Once you've got everything, close the door, turn the lock and muddle the code.
  8. Returning more than one Thing? Click 'Return other Things' button and repeat the process!

Wheelchair user?

We've tried to make our screen more accessible by creating an option for those in wheelchairs. If you click on the wheelchair symbol in the left hand corner, this will shift everything on the screen down, hopefully making it easier for you to use. Do pass along feedback about this feature.

"Sorry, we don't recognise that email address."

Make sure you're using the email that you used for your borrowing account - otherwise it won't know who you are!

If you haven't signed up with us or made a reservation it won't recognise your email - so make sure you've done that first at www.libraryofthings.co.uk
