Collecting something you've reserved? Or returning something you've borrowed? You'll do this on the main screen at Library of Things.

For anything else, including making reservations, head here instead for now: www.libraryofthings.co.uk

Where do I collect/return? Is there a car park? What time is it open for me to collect/return?

All this information will be included in your reservation confirmation email, and return reminder but in case you need a reminder you can find all the information about your local Library of Things here:

Crystal Palace
Morden

What will I need to collect and return?

Just the email address you made your reservation under.

Can someone else pick it up on my behalf?

Yes - someone else can pick up and return the item on your behalf, all they need is the email address you made your reservation under.

They will need to pay attention to what the check-out/in screen says, as they'll be responsible for making sure they've got all the parts from the locker for your Thing and that they've locked and secured the locker after they've retrieved/returned it.

If it helps, you can forward them the reservation confirmation email you received from us - or this article!

* Safe collection & return during the COVID-19 pandemic*

  • You must wear a mask at all times in the building (unless exempt)
  • Please sanitise your hands before using the self-service kiosk - this is available inside the building, and sanitise/wash your hands when you get home
  • Keep a distance 2+ metres away from anyone else at all times
  • Follow the one-way system inside the building - there are footsteps on the floor to help you follow this
  • There is a sanitisation station opposite the kiosk screen - please use this to wipe down the Thing on return (and on collection if you wish)
  • We advise just one person from your household coming to collect or return the Thing, unless you need assistance
  • We recommend bringing a bag to transport your Thing home in especially if you're transporting it on foot, on a bike or via public transport. We highly recommend giving this a clean or avoid using it for other purposes 72 hours after use.

I'm collecting a Thing I've reserved

  1. Click 'Collect'
  2. Enter your email address (the one associated with your borrowing account so it knows who you are)
  3. Click 'Start Collection' on the Thing you're collecting
  4. Your borrowing 'checklist' will appear for the Thing you're collecting. This is a list of parts and consumables you may need with your Thing so pay attention to this bit!
  5. It'll tell you where you can find the locker belonging to your Thing.
  6. Press the 'Open locker' button to open your locker which will magically pop open! If it doesn't work first time, press the button again. [This works slightly differently at Crystal Palace Library of Things - you'll be given a three digit code to open the locker and get your Thing. Turn the lock to open. Make sure you've got all the parts you need. Once you've got everything, close the door, turn the lock and muddle the code.)
  7. Let us know if anything doesn't look quite right - such as minor damage or a missing part. If it's more urgent you can start a live chat with us so we can help you solve it.
  8. Picking more than one Thing up? Click 'Collect other Things' button and repeat the process!
  9. Give us some feedback on your experience - it's all useful to help us improve the service!

Wheelchair user?

In Crystal Palace we've tried to make our screen more accessible by creating an option for those in wheelchairs. If you click on the wheelchair symbol in the left hand corner, this will shift everything on the screen down, hopefully making it easier for you to use. Do pass along feedback about this feature.

In Morden, the screen has been lowered to ensure wheelchair users can access it.

Need help?

Blank screen? Items you've reserved not showing up? Code not working? For these and any other issues you come across, please ping us a message and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Please bear with us during this time - we've built it ourself, there's sometimes bugs that pop up but means we can solve them ourselves too! We ask that you're patient and understanding with us and give us as much feedback as you can as it's all useful!

"Sorry, we don't recognise that email address."

Make sure you're using the email that you used for your borrowing account - otherwise it won't know who you are!

If you haven't signed up with us or made a reservation it won't recognise your email - so make sure you've done that first at www.libraryofthings.co.uk
