All dogs form crystals in their urinary tract. Crystals are generally made up of minerals that the body is eliminating. These crystals can be found in the bladder, ureters or urethra. When the crystals come together they can form calculi, otherwise known as stones, in the bladder.
The most common causes are foods and treats that produce changes in normal urine pH (too acidic or basic), bacteria, not enough water intake and genetics. Our All Life Stage Dog Food and our canned dog foods produce the perfect urine pH of 6.8. Plus, our canned food contains enough water to help dilute urine.
Fortunately for dogs, most stones can be eliminated by feeding them a veterinarian prescribed diet. Once your dog has recovered, ask your veterinarian if it's okay to return to a Life's Abundance diet. No point risking the same problem again if there's a chance it'll recur.
Bladder stones can be quite painful, so it's a good idea to do everything possible to avoid the conditions that lead to their formation.
