If your cat is accustomed to eating a different food and was recently transitioned to a Life's Abundance dry food, it's normal that they increase water intake. Most dry cat foods contain about 10% water. And, while our guarantee is no more than 10%, we actually have only about 7% water, because our food is so nutrient-dense. So if the previous food had more moisture, this 3% difference will likely lead to increased drinking.
And that's a good thing. Cats need to drink more water than they do. I don't worry about increased water drinking unless the cat is drinking excessive amounts. If you think this is the case, then measure how much water you put in the dish and how much remains at the end of the day, then share the results with your veterinarian. Excessive water intake can also be due to diseases such as diabetes and kidney disease.
Whenever you see a significant difference in any of your cat's behaviors, a veterinary consultation is always warranted. Our kitties are far too important to us to ignore such symptoms.
Monitoring your companion animal's intake of food and fresh water is important to you. Now, we'll take a look at increased thirst.
