While we do not advocate on behalf of ingredients that have been genetically modified - in fact, we've gone to some lengths to ensure that our whole grains are not - we cannot ensure that every single ingredient isn't. The reason for this is that early use of GMO lead to a widespread alteration in the global food supply, largely due to cross-pollination and misleading labeling.
According to a USDA estimate, 80% of packaged human foods include at least one or more genetically modified ingredient. More than 90% of all soy is GM, and nearly as much corn is, too; both of which have a significant presence in the food supply.
While there are independent certification programs available, they carry a significant cost. At Life’s Abundance, we do not think the burden of certifying ingredients as non-GMO should fall upon consumers, whose prices would be impacted. If this issue is important to you, we encourage you to write to your legislators to demand mandatory labeling of GMO foods.
