Why do the lesson plans in the Student (Youth) Sunday School lessons suggest department (large group) time and class (small group) time?

Teenagers like the excitement of the large group, but they also want and need the fellowship that can be developed only in a small group setting. Teenagers often focus more easily on the study as a large group before tackling the details in a small group.

During class time, students can interact and get involved at their own level. The class time allows every individual to ask questions and get involved, something that the larger group may inhibit.
