Kit theming lets you override your Space's default theme to apply custom branding to individual Kits. This is particularly useful when managing multiple brands within a single Space.

Only Kit Editors can customize a Kit theme.

Kit theming is only available on the Enterprise plan.

How Kit theming works

Lingo uses a three-layer theming system:

  1. Space theme - The base theme for your entire Space, used by default for all Kits and Portals

  2. Portal theme - Customizes the Portal landing page (does not affect Kits within the Portal)

  3. Kit theme - Overrides the Space theme for specific Kits

Important: Kits always default to your Space theme, even when displayed inside a Portal. This is because a Kit may exist in multiple Portals or be accessed directly, and inheriting different Portal themes would create an inconsistent experience.

When to use Kit theming

Kit theming is ideal for multi-brand scenarios. For example, if your Space manages assets for multiple brands, you can apply each brand's visual identity to their respective Kits while maintaining a consistent Space theme for everything else.

If all your Kits share the same brand identity, you should customize your Space theme instead of overriding individual Kit themes.

Applying a Kit theme

  1. Open your Kit

  2. Click the ••• button in the upper right

  3. Select Configure Kit Theme

  4. Use the editor panel to make changes

  5. Save

Theme options

You can override any of the following settings at the Kit level:

  • Layout/theme - Overall visual style (Classic, Scher, Wyman)

  • Font - Typography for headings and body text

  • Accent color - Used for buttons, links, and highlights

  • Asset backgrounds - Background color for asset thumbnails

  • Card backgrounds - Background color for cards and containers

Any setting you don't customize will continue to use your Space theme. You can also reset settings to revert back to inheriting the Space theme.

Theme best practices

Use Space themes first - Set up your Space theme before customizing individual Kits. For most teams, a single unified brand is ideal. Kit themes are best reserved for multi-brand scenarios.

Override only when needed - Kit theming is designed for multi-brand scenarios. If you find yourself customizing every Kit, consider updating your Space theme instead.
