Protect your Linktree account with MFA (Multi-factor Authentication)

Updated over 6 months ago

In today’s digital-first world, data is everywhere—accessed, used, and shared at an incredible pace. With that comes a rise in cyber threats, and at Linktree, we’re dedicated to protecting you and your content.

What is MFA?

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is a security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your account. It requires more than just your username and password to verify your identity, making it harder for bad actors to gain access.

Why enable MFA?

MFA significantly reduces the risk of cyber-attacks. By adding another step to the login process, you’re safeguarding your Linktree account against unauthorized access.

MFA Options

When enabling MFA, you can choose between these two options:

  1. SMS Verification
With this option, you’ll receive a 6-digit verification code via text or voice call whenever you log in. It’s a straightforward choice for those who prefer simplicity and already have their phone handy.

  2. Authenticator App
Use an app like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator to generate time-based one-time codes. This method doesn’t rely on SMS, offering an added layer of security and flexibility, especially if you’re traveling or have limited cell service.

How to enable MFA

  1. Head to the My Account page in your Linktree Admin and scroll down to the Security and privacy section.

  2. Select SMS or an Authenticator App as your preferred MFA option.

  3. Tap Add and follow the steps to set it up.

    1. For SMS: Enter your country code and phone number. You’ll receive a 6-digit verification code via text or voice call.

    2. For Authenticator App: Follow the app instructions to link it to your account.

📝 If you're not able to scan the code, tap Trouble Scanning? to receive a manual code that you may enter into your authenticator app.

That’s it! Next time you log in, you’ll need to enter a verification code to secure your account.
