Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) Overview
Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) is an IRS-compliant method used to verify your identity when electronically signing Form 8879. You must correctly answer all KBA questions to authenticate successfully.
How does Liscio use KBA?
Initially, you will be asked four questions.
If you answer one question incorrectly, you'll receive two additional questions to attempt.
You have a total of four attempts to successfully pass KBA.
If all attempts fail, the electronic agreement will be canceled, and the Task Owner will be notified through an automatic comment.
How does KBA work?
Liscio partners with Adobe and uses LexisNexis, a leading provider of KBA solutions. KBA questions are randomly generated based on your personal credit history and may include questions regarding past purchases, rental history, or previous addresses.
Can I fail KBA?
Yes, although failure is uncommon. Common reasons for failing KBA include:
Insufficient credit history to generate accurate questions.
Being a newly established adult or recent citizen.
Extensive periods living outside the United States.
Receiving questions referencing another individual.
Incorrectly answering questions.
Selecting a nearly correct answer instead of choosing "None of the Above."
Not knowing the correct answers to the questions asked.
What should I do if I fail KBA?
If you fail the KBA, contact the individual who assigned you the eDoc task by commenting directly within the task. They will provide instructions for next steps.
How can I improve my chances of passing KBA?
When beginning the KBA process, you can optionally provide the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN). Doing so enables the generation of more personalized and accurate questions, significantly improving your chances of passing the authentication.
