Important Notes

  1. Supported Tax Returns

    1. Support: Federal and all State 1040 tax returns.

    2. Not supported: Locality, state-only filings, US-1040-NR, and US-1040-SR.

    3. Only long-form 1040 returns are supported (1040EZ and 1040A are not).

  2. Required Forms in Tax Return PDF

    1. Federal & State 1040 forms.

    2. Federal Form 8879.

    3. Estimated payment vouchers/payment vouchers (if applicable).

    4. State 8879 form is required for these states:

      1. Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York.

  3. PDF Preparation Requirements

    1. Use the native print function of your tax software (do not use a PDF print driver).

    2. Ensure the PDF:

      1. Is not password protected

      2. Has watermarks disabled

      3. Includes the taxpayer’s email address on page 2 of the Federal 1040

      4. Combines Federal and State returns into a single PDF (do not upload multiple PDFs).

Lacerte Setup and Printing Instructions

  1. Select the client you wish to print.

    1. You can select multiple clients by holding Shift as you select clients

  2. Click Print > Tax Return...

  3. Click Client Copy.

  4. Make sure that only File (PDF) is selected.

  5. Click OK.

  6. If printing in bulk, changing the filename of the first printed return will allow you to change the name of each subsequent return individually.

    1. If no change is made, all returns will print with the default name.

  7. Click Save.
