What battery pack testing is performed?

What tests are done to our battery packs before they leave our facility

Grading Cells

All cells (18650 cylindrical, Lipo, etc.) intended for assembly into battery packs are tested for voltage and impedance and graded appropriately to maximize performance. A random sample is capacity tested. Cells of the same grade are designated for use in the same packs.

Testing Packs

Samples

After the pack is assembled, all samples are tested for voltage, capacity, and internal resistance, for charge and discharge conditions for typically three age cycles.

Small Format (1-4S)

For mass production of 1S, 2S, 3S, and 4S a sample set is tested for voltage, capacity, and internal resistance, for charge and discharge conditions for typically three age cycles. The sample set is typically 30%.

Medium and Large Format (5S+)

For 5S and larger configurations all packs are tested for voltage, capacity, and internal resistance, for charge and discharge conditions for typically three age cycles.

Other

Special tests can be performed like altitude simulation, thermal test, vibration, shock, external short circuit, impact, overcharge, and others before packaging.

Raw testing data can be obtained but should be requested before placing an order.

Certifications

The tests discussed here are internal to Voltaplex and do not include testing done for certifications like UN 38.3, MSDS, CE, FCC, and so on. These external certifications all have their own testing requirements which are performed by a third-party laboratory.
