After receiving cells, if they have shipping stickers you can remove them immediately. Sometimes the sticker or tape will lift off some of the color or ink from the battery cell PVC -- this is OK and does not affect safety.
For air freight
Many cells are required to be marked with capacity, voltage, and size to be allowed to board a cargo plane.
The warehouse where the cells are repackaged for air shipping may use a sticker or paper taped to the cell with the required markings in order for the forwarder to receive them.ย
Special 3M paper
Removing the shipping stickers can be a laborious process depending on the quantity requested. Under special circumstances we can print on special 3M paper which is specially treated for easy removal from the PVC even under higher temperatures. However, these stickers must be custom printed and should be part of a longer-term purchase plan to be economical.
Removing PVC
We can not ship cells without PVC and washer because of safety issues concerning conductive particulates being able to wedge between the negative tube and top cap causing short-circuit. For in-house removal of PVC we recommend using a common sewing needle (or similar non conductive analog) as is done in Chinese facilities, with which each cell can be unwrapped and binned in as little as three seconds.
For sea freight
Once reaching higher quantities shipping by sea becomes more economical. Shipping stickers are not required for goods by sea freight and OEM packaging can be used.
What cells are affected?
Cylindrical import-brand cells like LG, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony, & Panasonic often require stickers depending on current regulations. Made-in-China are less likely to require stickers.
