You’ll find traditionalists out there who insist that vegetables be introduced before fruits to prevent a sweet tooth. This is great advice except anyone who has fed babies knows that it’s much easier in theory than in practice. Every baby is born with an adorable little sweet tooth and their little tongues have highly sensitive taste buds that are programmed for that preference because breast milk is sweet. The veggie first approach is definitely a harder sell with breast milk babies and most parents report having more success with fruits than with vegetables in the very beginning. Carrots and sweet potatoes are other great options as first foods because they are on the sweeter side. Don’t worry if your baby shows a strong preference for fruit, they’ll learn to love veggies too if you continue to offer them.
