Troubleshoot common Price List issues in LMN Estimating, from materials not appearing after upload to unexpected unit prices and SiteOne errors.

Written by Kaitlin Lane

Use this guide to resolve the most common Price List issues in LMN Estimating—from materials that won't upload, to pricing that looks off, to problems connecting or importing from SiteOne.

In this article:

Before You Begin

Before troubleshooting an import, confirm a few basics so your upload has the best chance of succeeding.

  • Save your file as a .CSV file. .XLSX files will not import.

  • Start from a fresh export of your catalog rather than an older or edited file.

  • Confirm you have the permissions needed to edit the Price List.

For detailed import formatting steps, see the Price List | FAQ.

Materials Won't Upload or Don't Appear After Import

If your materials don't import or aren't visible after an upload, work through the causes below. They're grouped into file-formatting issues and data or category issues.

File formatting

  1. Confirm the file is a .CSV (not .XLSX)

  2. Keep the file under 1,000 rows; split larger files into multiple imports

  3. Leave the header row intact and unmodified

  4. Remove any hyperlinks or special characters from the cells

  5. Keep each item description within the 255-character limit

Data and categories

  1. Check for duplicated categories in your Price List and merge or remove them.

  2. Remove duplicate item names

  3. Make sure every item is assigned to a category

💡 If an import brought in bad data, you can roll it back. See the rollback steps in the Price List | FAQ.

Unit Price Looks Wrong (profit margin vs. markup)

If a unit price doesn't match what you expect, the most common cause is confusing profit margin with markup—they use different calculations.

⚠️ Markup and margin are not the same. A markup applied to your cost produces a different selling price than the same percentage entered as a margin.

Review your item's settings to confirm whether the value is entered as a margin or a markup, and adjust accordingly.

Most people are confused between a profit margin and a profit markup. LMN uses profit margins - which give you a true net profit... so if you're looking for 10% net profit, you'll get 10% net profit.

The solution lies in correcting how profit is added. If you want to earn a profit of 10%, you cannot simply add 10% to the cost. It doesn't work that way. 10% of the cost is less than 10% of the selling price, and that is how a profit margin is calculated - by a % of the selling price.

The simple fix is to fix the formula for adding profit. Profit is correctly added by using the following

Price = (Cost) divided by (1 - Profit Margin)

So, in our example above, it would be:

  • Price = ($100) divided by (1 - .20)

  • Price = ($100) divided by (.8)

  • Price = $125

💡 If the price on an estimate differs from the price in your Price List, see Estimating | Troubleshooting for "Why is the price on the estimate different from the Price List?"

SiteOne troubleshooting

Use the sections below to resolve common SiteOne connection and import problems:

"SiteOne Time Out has been exceeded"

If you see a timeout message, retry the connection. If it continues, contact our Support Team so the issue can be investigated.

Can't link your SiteOne account

If you're unable to connect your SiteOne account, confirm your SiteOne credentials and try again. If linking still fails, contact our Support Team.

Item names dropping characters

Certain characters in SiteOne item names (for example, "/") may be dropped on import, so a value like 3/4" can appear as 34. Review affected item names after importing and correct them as needed.

Prices Not Appearing on Invoices or Timesheet Reports

If a price is set correctly in your catalog but doesn't appear on invoices or timesheet reports, contact our Support Team so they can confirm the expected behavior for your account.
