This article explains how the editor works in Lokalise Vantage and how to use it to review, update, and approve translations.
The editor is the main workspace for translation and review in Vantage. It shows your source content, translated segments, project progress, and review tools in one place.
Open the editor
After you create a Vantage project and start translation, you are automatically redirected to the editor. You can also return to it later by opening the Vantage project and selecting the Editor tab.
The editor is where you can:
view all content within the project (you may need to scroll to load all segments)
review translated content
edit target text
approve segments
track progress
filter and search segments
work on assigned review tasks
use ProAI to shorten or rephrase segments
use the Asset panel to work with translation memory and glossary suggestions
Editor layout
The editor is split into three main parts:
Content and assets panel — the left-side panel in the editor. It contains:
Content — shows uploaded files and their current status, such as In progress or Done.
Assets — shows translation assets relevant to the segment you are currently editing, including:
glossary terms detected in the current source segment
translation memory entries that match or relate to the current segment
option to add a new glossary term using the plus icon
asset search
link to the global Assets page
Source — the original content in the project’s base language.
Target — the translated content for the selected target language.
Each row in the editor represents a segment, similar to translation keys in Lokalise Expert. The source text is shown in the center of the editor, while the target translation for the selected language is shown on the right. The left-side panel is used for content navigation and translation assets.
Review and edit translations
You can edit translated content directly in the Target column. This allows you to:
correct wording
improve phrasing
adjust tone
fix formatting issues within the segment
While editing, you can also use the Asset panel to check translation memory matches and glossary terms for the selected segment, then insert or apply them where useful.
The source text is shown for reference, but it cannot be edited directly in the editor.
You cannot edit the source text directly in Vantage. To update it, upload a new version of the file with the same file name from the Files tab as explained in the Files article.
Approve segments
Each translated segment includes an approve action in the Target column. Approving a segment marks it as reviewed and accepted.
What happens after you approve content
As segments are reviewed and approved:
progress updates in the Statistics panel
manually approved content is saved to Translation memory
future translations reuse approved matches where applicable
Not all approved segments are automatically saved to translation memory. For example, AI-approved segments must be manually re-approved to be stored in TM. To learn more, check the Translation assets article.
Additional segment actions
Each segment includes a menu with additional actions that help you quickly adjust translations or manage edits.
Available actions include:
Rephrase translation — generates an alternative version of the translation using AI. Usually the AI suggests up to three alternative translations.
Shorten translation — produces a shorter version of the translation, useful when space is limited. Usually the AI suggests up to three alternative translations.
Use source text — copies the source text into the translation field. The label reflects the base language (for example, Use English text).
Copy text — copies the current translation to your clipboard.
Translation history — open translation history panel. Refer to the Translation history section to learn more.
Save changes and approve — saves your edits and marks the segment as approved.
Save changes, don’t approve — saves your edits without approving the segment.
Cancel changes — discards current changes made to the segment.
Apply changes to duplicate segments
If a segment appears multiple times in your project, you don’t need to update each instance manually.
After you approve a segment that has identical duplicates, a hint will appear below it indicating that matching segments exist elsewhere in the project. Click Review segments to open the Identical translations dialog.
In this dialog, you can:
apply and approve the changes segment by segment
apply and approve the changes to all matching segments at once
choose to ignore duplicates and close the dialog
Assets panel
The Assets panel gives you access to translation memory and glossary suggestions directly in the editor. You can use it to reuse existing translations, check approved terminology, and search translation assets without leaving the segment you are reviewing.
When you select a segment, the panel shows assets relevant to that segment:
Translation memory matches — fuzzy TM matches for the selected segment, sorted by the closest match first.
Glossary terms — terms detected for the selected segment’s languages.
You can also use the Assets panel as a search tool. Search is workspace-scoped, which means it looks through the translation memory and glossary shared across your workspace, not only the current project.
Translation memory matches
When a segment is selected, the Assets panel shows fuzzy TM matches that may help you reuse previous translations. Each match includes a match percentage, so you can quickly understand how close it is to the current segment.
To use a TM match:
Select a segment in the editor.
Open the Assets tab by clicking the corresponding button in the top menu.
Review the suggested TM matches.
Click Insert on the match you want to use.
Review the inserted translation and make any edits if needed.
For fuzzy matches below 100%, Vantage does not simply copy and paste the TM entry into the segment. Instead, it uses ProAI to retranslate the segment with the selected TM entry as the main context. This helps preserve required tags, placeholders, and code-like elements.
Always review the result before approving the segment.
Glossary terms
The Assets panel also shows glossary terms relevant to the selected segment. Use these suggestions to keep product names, brand terms, campaign wording, and other approved terminology consistent.
You can:
hover over a glossary term to highlight where it appears in the editor
click a glossary term to filter the editor to segments containing that term
insert glossary terms while editing a translation
Glossary term filters apply to the target language and combine with other active filters.
Search workspace assets
You can search translation memory and glossary entries directly from the Asset panel.
Search works across the workspace assets shared with your workspace. This is useful when you want to check how a phrase was translated before, even if it does not appear as a direct suggestion for the current segment.
Search behavior depends on whether a segment is selected:
If no segment is selected, search looks across the workspace translation memory and glossary.
If a segment is selected, glossary search still searches the whole glossary, while TM search stays focused on the suggested fuzzy matches for that segment.
Insert glossary terms with slash command
You can also insert glossary terms directly while editing a translation.
Type / in a segment to open a term picker. The suggested terms are matched to the current segment’s languages. Keep typing to narrow the list, then select the term you want to insert.
To exit the picker and leave your text as-is, type a double space.
Translation history
You can view previous versions of a translation directly from the editor. To open the history for a segment:
Open the segment actions menu.
Click Translation history.
Translation history is tied to the current source segment. If the source segment is replaced during file re-import, the history for that segment is lost.
The history panel shows previous translation versions for that segment. This helps you compare the current translation with earlier versions without leaving the editor.
For each previous version, you can:
Copy the translation text
Restore this version to replace the current translation with the selected previous version
Use translation history when you want to check how a translation changed during review, recover an earlier version, or compare edits before approving a segment.
Preview translated content
For certain file formats, you can preview translated content directly in the editor:
Interactive preview is available for: Google Docs, DOCX, HTML.
Vantage supports two preview modes: interactive preview and static preview. The available preview modes depend on the file format. In the interactive preview you can, for example, locate specific segments easily:
You can switch between static and interactive preview modes using controls in the top menu. Here, you can also select the preview language:
Note: the static preview needs to be regenerated after making changes to translations. If it becomes outdated, a banner will appear prompting you to refresh it.
The static preview preserves layout and structure more accurately than the editor view, but uses a default system font instead of the original fonts.
Static preview is available for: DOCX, PPTX.
Click the "cancel" icon to close the preview.
Vantage remembers your settings, so that the next time you enter the editor, the preview will show up at the same place as you set it up.
Interactive preview
Interactive preview is best for locating segments in context and navigating translated content quickly.
You can use it to find where a segment appears in the document and move between the preview and the editor while reviewing translations.
Interactive preview is available for:
Google Docs
DOCX
HTML
Known limitations
For DOCX files, page headers and footers are not shown in the interactive preview. This means that text placed in Word page headers or footers may not appear in the preview, even though the translatable segments themselves are not affected.
If your document contains meaningful content in page headers or footers, use the static preview to check the full document rendering.
Static preview
Static preview is best when you need a more faithful and complete rendering of the source layout.
Use static preview when:
layout fidelity is important
the document contains meaningful content in page headers or footers
you want to review the full rendered document rather than navigate segments interactively
Static preview includes page headers and footers for DOCX files and preserves the document layout and structure more accurately than the editor view. However, it uses a default system font instead of the original fonts.
Static preview is available for:
DOCX
PPTX
The static preview needs to be regenerated after making changes to translations. If it becomes outdated, a banner appears prompting you to refresh it.
Track progress
The top area of the editor provides project-level tools and status information. From there, you can monitor translation and review progress across the project. Click the Approved segments dropdown to open the Statistics panel.
The Statistics dropdown shows progress for each target language of the whole project, including:
percentage of approved segments
number of translated segments
processed word counts
Use filters to focus on specific content
The Filters menu helps you narrow down the segment list.
You can filter segments by criteria such as:
language
translation status
review status
task membership
quality issues
For example, you can show only segments that are:
untranslated
unreviewed
approved
part of a task
flagged with quality issues
This is especially useful when reviewing large documents or focusing on assigned work.
Search for text segments
You can use the search field at the top of the Editor to find specific text segments.
Search helps you quickly locate:
words or phrases in the source text
translated content in the target language
sections you want to review or update
This is useful when working with longer documents or verifying repeated terms.
Add target languages from the editor
You can add new target languages directly from the editor by clicking Add a language:
Once a new language is added, Vantage automatically starts translating the content into that language. If the project uses the AI + human review workflow, Vantage may also create a review task for the newly added language.
Target languages can be added, but they cannot be removed once added.
