Note: This article describes how this feature works in Lokalise Vantage. The same feature is also available in Lokalise Expert, but the interface and workflow may differ. If you are using Lokalise Expert, see: Contentful Native.
This integration is still in alpha.
The Contentful integration in Lokalise Vantage lets you connect a Contentful space directly when creating a project. Instead of uploading files manually, you can browse and filter Contentful entries, select the content you want to translate, and import it into Vantage.
Once the translations are ready, you can send them back to the corresponding entries in Contentful.
Step 1: Create a Vantage project
Start by creating a new project in Lokalise Vantage:
Click New project.
Select Long-form content as the project type.
Select Contentful as the content source.
Enter a project name, select the base language and target languages.
Click Continue with Contentful and connect your Contentful account.
Step 2: Connect Contentful
Log in to Contentful and authorize Lokalise Vantage to access your content. If you're already logged in to Contentful, you'll be taken directly to the authorization screen.
After authorization:
Select the Contentful space you want to connect.
Select an environment.
Click Connect.
If the space contains only the master environment, it is selected automatically. If multiple environments are available, select the one you want to use.
Important: You can use the Lokalise Expert and Vantage Contentful integrations at the same time, but we don't recommend connecting both to the same Contentful space and environment.
Both integrations can write translations to the same entries independently. As a result, changes sent through one integration may overwrite translations sent through the other.
If you're migrating from Expert to Vantage, use different Contentful environments for the two integrations or migrate one Contentful space at a time.
Step 3: Select Contentful entries
After connecting Contentful, Vantage displays the entries available in the selected space and environment.
For each entry, you can see:
Title
Vantage uses the Contentful entry title when displaying an entry. If a title cannot be found, the Contentful entry ID is displayed instead.
Last updated date
Content type
Status (draft, changed, published, archived)
Select the entries you want to translate, then click Continue.
Filter and search entries
Use filters to narrow down the content you want to import. You can filter entries by:
Content type
Tags
Status
Created or updated date
You can also use the search field to find entries by text. When selecting content types or tags, start typing in the filter field to narrow down the available options.
Select multiple entries
Select one or more entries using the checkboxes next to them.
To select all entries that match the current filters, select an entry and click Select all items.
Note: Select all items applies to all entries matching the current filters, not only the entries currently visible in the table. This allows you to select large sets of content without navigating through every page.
Include referenced entries
On the content selection screen, you can also enable Include referenced entries.
Contentful entries can reference other entries. When this option is enabled, Vantage imports the entries referenced by the content you've selected along with the selected entries themselves.
For example, if a page entry references several reusable content entries, Vantage imports both the page and those referenced entries. If the option is disabled, only the entries you selected directly are imported.
Once you've selected the content you want to translate, click Continue to start the import.
Select all matching entries
After you select an entry, an option to select all matching items appears at the bottom of the content selection screen. Click Select all items to select every entry that matches the current filters and search criteria.
This selection is not limited to the entries currently visible in the table. For example, if your filters match hundreds or thousands of entries, Select all items selects the entire matching set, including entries on other pages.
You can then continue with the import as usual.
Step 4: Configure the translation workflow
Next, you can configure a glossary for the project if needed.
Then, select the workflow you want to use for the translation (Instant Pro AI translation or Pro AI translation with human review). To learn more about the available options, see Choose a workflow.
When you're ready, click Start AI translation.
Step 5: Translate and review content
Vantage imports the selected Contentful entries and starts translating them using the workflow you selected. You can open the imported content in the Vantage editor to review and edit the translations as needed.
Once the translation workflow is complete, the content appears under the Done tab, ready to be sent back to Contentful.
Import more content
You can import additional Contentful entries or re-import existing content at any time.
In the project editor, click Import from Contentful in the left sidebar. This opens the same content selection screen used during the initial project setup.
Select the entries you want to import or re-import, then click Import.
Step 6: Send translations back to Contentful
Completed content appears under Done in the left sidebar, where you can see details such as the entry name, translation progress, target language, and last edited date.
To export translations back to Contentful:
In the project editor, click Send to Contentful in the upper-right corner.
Select the completed entries you want to export. You can also select all available entries at once.
Click Next.
Choose which translations to send:
Enable All target languages to export all translated target languages.
Disable it to select specific target languages instead.
If you want to export referenced entries together with the selected entries, enable Include referenced entries.
Click Send.
Vantage sends the selected translations to the connected Contentful space and environment. Once the export is complete, a confirmation message appears in Vantage.
