How does this impact my state pension?

State benefits such as statutory sick pay, statutory maternity pay, statutory paternity pay may be affected by you having a lower salary. However, from April 2016, the state pension is a flat rate pension based on the number of years of NICs contributions rather than the level of earnings and contributions so should not be affected provided you still pay some NICs.
