If you are in an accident, make sure to stop the car immediately and get all passengers to a safe place. Then you must notify the emergency services of any injuries requiring emergency medical treatment, and ask for police assistance (if needed). Police assistance may be needed where someone has been injured, the cars are causing a road hazard, or if the traffic signs or road markings have been damaged.
When leaving the car, please ensure it is secured, if possible, and that the hazard lights are on. Please also call the Driver Line to report the accident and arrange assistance (when you are able to do so).
Under no circumstances should you admit liability or blame at the scene of the accident. Make sure to take a note of all car registrations (plus make and model details) and names and addresses of all vehicles and individuals involved. Please also take a note of parties’ insurance details, and any witnesses to the accident.
When providing your own information to others at the scene, please provide only your name, address, registration, insurer name and address and policy number.
