Introducing Reflections: A New Way to Share What You've Learned
Every year, our members walk into 550+ rooms together — roundtables, workshops, offsites, conferences — and something valuable happens in almost every one of them. Someone shares how they actually got through a messy acquisition, rebuilt their team's tooling from scratch, or survived a brutal board debate. It's the kind of insight you can't get from a playbook. And until now, most of it disappeared the moment the room emptied out.
That's the gap Reflections is built to close.
What is a Reflection?
A Reflection is a new, long-form post type on Braintrust — built for sharing real experiences, hard-won lessons, and the practical takeaways that come with them. Think of it as a LinkedIn Article meets a Braintrust Thread: the depth and space to tell the full story, combined with the trust and specificity of a peer conversation.
Reflections give you room to go deep — up to 20,000 characters — with support for a subtitle, a cover image, and the same discussion features (replies, upvotes, mentions) you already know from the feed.
Why we built this
Our community isn't short on expertise. It's short on capture. The best insight tends to surface in a hallway conversation or a live roundtable and then just... evaporates. Reflections exist to give that knowledge a permanent, discoverable home — written by the people who actually lived it, for the peers who'll face the same thing next.
This is also why Reflections are intentionally not a place for thought leadership or personal branding. The goal is teaching, not promoting. A great Reflection reads like something you'd tell a trusted peer in confidence — not something you'd post to build a following.
How it works
Starting one is easy. Open the "Create a post" modal and choose "Share Learnings." The moment you start typing, your work is saved as a private draft — invisible to everyone but you until you hit publish. Come back to it whenever you're ready; drafts autosave as you write, so you'll never lose your place.
You'll get gentle guidance along the way. As you write, in-context prompts nudge you toward the kind of learning-focused storytelling Reflections are meant for — what happened, what you learned, what you'd tell a peer facing the same situation.
Optional AI review with Lloyd. Before you publish, you can ask Lloyd to review your draft. Lloyd offers feedback on tone, structure, and clarity, and helps flag anything that reads as more promotional than instructive — all while preserving your voice. You can regenerate the feedback for a fresh take, and upvote or downvote it to help us keep improving.
Publishing and visibility. Once published, your Reflection shows up in the main feed (clearly labeled), in daily digest emails, and on your profile under Activity → Posts — with the same visibility rules as any other thread in your peer network. Because Reflections can run long, readers see a preview first and click through to read the full piece, keeping the conversation and replies front and center.
Recognition that means something
Reflections count toward your standing in the community, and well-engaged ones — the kind that spark real discussion — carry extra weight. Each month, we recognize a "Reflection of the Month" per Suite in the Daily Digest, with occasional spotlighting beyond the platform for standout pieces. Winners are chosen primarily by upvotes and replies, with a quick internal check to make sure the piece is genuinely learning-focused.
When to write one
Some of the best Reflections come out of a specific moment:
Right after you've solved a hard problem or made it through something messy
After speaking at or attending one of our events
Any time a discussion post you wrote sparked real conversation and you want to go deeper
If you've got a lesson worth passing on, that's really the only prerequisite. Head to Braintrust and start your first Reflection today.
