Some Windows templates start with a 50 GB C: partition. If your plan includes more storage, the remaining space appears as unallocated in Disk Management. You can either merge that space into C: or create a new drive.
Option 1 — Extend the C: partition
If you want a single larger system drive, extend C: directly from Disk Management.
Steps
Log in to your VPS using Remote Desktop.
Right-click the Start menu and select Disk Management.
In Disk 0, find:
C: (50 GB, NTFS)
Unallocated (remaining space)
Right-click C: and select Extend Volume.
Follow the wizard and choose how much unallocated space to add.
Select Next, then Finish.
When complete, the C: partition grows to include all selected space.
Option 2 — Create a new partition
If you prefer to keep C: unchanged, you can turn the unallocated space into a separate drive.
Steps
In Disk Management, right-click the Unallocated space.
Select New Simple Volume.
Choose a drive letter, such as D:.
Format the volume as NTFS.
Assign a label and finish the wizard.
A new partition (for example, D:) will appear and is ready for storage.
Troubleshooting when “Extend Volume” is greyed out
If the extend option is unavailable, the usual reason is that unallocated space is not immediately adjacent to the C: partition.
What to check
Make sure the unallocated space sits directly next to C:.
If the layout is correct but the button is still unavailable, try Diskpart.
Diskpart method
diskpart list volume select volume C extend exit
If the unallocated space is separated by a recovery or system partition, Windows cannot extend C:. You can either create a new partition or reinstall Windows with a custom layout.
Notes
Extending C: may require a reboot if certain files are in use.
Either method is supported on LumaDock VPS; choose whichever fits your storage needs.
Disk configuration is fully under your control.
