Changing a VPS primary IP

Understand primary IPv4 changes and additional IP rules.

Written by Andy Wallace

Each LumaDock VPS includes one primary IPv4 address. This is the main IP assigned to the service when the server is created. Adding an extra IPv4 address does not replace the primary IP.

Important: Changing the primary IP is a manual service request and incurs an additional fee. The fee is waived only when the current IP is confirmed as listed on AbuseIPDB or Spamhaus.

Primary IP and additional IPs

Your primary IP is the main IPv4 address assigned to the VPS in the LumaDock platform.

Additional IPv4 addresses are secondary IPs. They can be used inside your server for extra sites, apps or network configurations.

Adding an additional IPv4 does not change the primary IP.

Removing an additional IPv4 does not change the primary IP.

Using an additional IP

If you buy an additional IPv4, you can configure it inside your operating system while it remains active on the service.

The VPS primary IP still stays the same from the LumaDock side.

Changing the primary IP

If you want a different primary IP, you must open a support request.

Primary IP changes are handled manually, incur an additional fee and depend on IP availability at the time of the request.

An additional IP cannot be converted into the primary IP as a free swap.

Free IP changes for blacklist cases

We can waive the primary IP change fee if the current IP is listed on one of these references:

  • AbuseIPDB

  • Spamhaus

Other reputation websites, private scanners, mail testing tools or third-party warning pages are not used as proof for a free IP replacement.

Blocks applied by a specific ISP, country, corporate network or third-party service are outside LumaDock’s control and do not automatically qualify for a free IP change.

We can review these cases individually, but if the IP is not listed on AbuseIPDB or Spamhaus, the normal IP change fee applies. In some cases, we may offer a replacement IP for testing before confirming the final change and billing.

Abuse prevention

Primary IP changes are meant for valid one off situations. They are not intended for frequent IP rotation or for avoiding additional IPv4 billing.

Requests that appear abusive will be refused.

How to request it

Open a support ticket from your client area and include the VPS name or service ID.

Tell us that you want to change the primary IP. If you believe the IP is blacklisted, include the AbuseIPDB or Spamhaus result in the ticket.

Our team will check availability and confirm if the change is free or if the normal fee applies before proceeding.
