What is the difference between the Function, Everywhere, and Block methods in Magical Fees?

Magical Fees

Written by Kyle Godon

Function fees use Shopify Functions to bundle the fees as part of a product or to bundle them with other fees at the checkout. They are fast and reliable, and support percentage-based fees for all merchants. They work well for most fees like credit card processing fees, recycling fees, bottle deposits, and surcharges. The Function method is recommended for most stores.

Everywhere fees are the simplest way to charge a fee. You set a few conditions (product tag, collection, specific products, product type, or storefront country) and Magical Fees applies them for you with no theme code or app blocks. Everywhere fees work across your online store, checkout, headless storefronts, POS, and draft orders. They support fixed or percentage fees (with optional min and max caps) and multiple currencies. They do not apply to subscription carts, and they are available on every plan including Starter.

Block fees show fees as separate line items in the checkout. Some stores prefer this for aesthetic reasons or to meet specific workflow needs. They are commonly used to let discounts apply to percentage-based subtotal fees; however, please note that applying percentage-based fees to the order total (after discounts) is only available on Shopify Plus with our Plus plan.
