From the Heatmap, teachers can:

The Heatmap updates automatically as students work.
Open the Heatmap
To open the Heatmap:
Go to the Assignments tab.
Click anywhere on an assignment card.
The Heatmap view will open automatically.
Understanding Heatmap Colors and Icons
The Heatmap uses colors and symbols to show student progress and performance.
Color / Symbol | Meaning |
🟩 Green | Correct on the first attempt |
🟨 Yellow | Correct after multiple attempts |
🟥 Red | Incorrect answer |
👁 Eye icon | Student viewed the answer |
⬜ Grey | No answer submitted yet |
Number in cell | Total number of submissions |
Because the Heatmap updates in real time, teachers can immediately identify:
students who may need support
students ready for enrichment
problems causing class-wide difficulty
Identify Trends and Student Needs
The Heatmap helps teachers quickly spot:
students struggling with specific concepts
students completing work easily
common misconceptions across the class
patterns in attempts and accuracy
This makes it easier to adjust instruction, pause for discussion, or provide intervention during class.
Anonymize Student Data
Teachers can anonymize student names while still viewing performance data.
To anonymize:
Click the checkmark/privacy icon in the top-right corner.
Student names will be replaced with labels such as:
Student #1
Student #2
Results will appear in blue to help support privacy during classroom discussions or presentations.
Sort the Heatmap
Teachers can change how the Heatmap is organized using the Sort button.
Sorting options help teachers review:
accuracy trends
submission order
student progress patterns
Review Problem Details
Click a problem number at the top of the Heatmap to:
view all student responses for that problem
compare strategies and mistakes
analyze class-wide understanding
This is especially useful for reviewing misconceptions and facilitating discussion.

Playback and Solution Tools
Inside each solution view, teachers have access to additional tools.
Playback
Replay the student’s full solution process step-by-step. This helps teachers understand:
how the student approached the problem
where mistakes occurred
how thinking evolved during solving
Solve
Open the problem in solve mode to work through it yourself.
Report Error
Flag issues such as:
incorrect answer keys
unclear wording
technical problems
Reported issues are sent directly to the Magma team for review.
Common Errors
The Heatmap also helps teachers identify recurring mistakes across student solutions, making it easier to:
