Magma Math makes it easy to monitor your students’ progress in math skills over time. Every assignment in Magma is linked to specific skills, and the Progression tab helps you see which skills students have mastered—and which ones still need work.

This data includes both assigned work and what students complete in Practice Mode.

What Does “Mastered” Mean?

A skill is considered mastered when a student scores at least 50% on their five most recent tasks linked to that skill.

If a student scores below 50% on more than half of those tasks, they may lose mastery.

How to Use the Progression Tab

  1. Select a Class
Use the dropdown in the top-left corner to choose your class.

  2. Open the Progression Tab
You’ll see an overview of the grade levels your students have worked on.
These grades reflect skill difficulty, not the students’ actual grade level.

  3. Explore Skill Mastery

  • Click on a Grade to view all related standards and the % of skills mastered.

  • Click on a Standard to drill down into specific skills.

  • Each skill shows how many students have mastered it.

Mastered skills = blue circles
Unmastered skills = empty circles

View Individual Student Progress

To check a specific student’s progress:

  1. Click the Student Selector in the top-right corner.

  2. Choose a Grade, Standard, or Skill.

    You’ll see:

    • What the student has mastered

    • Blue circles for mastered skills

    • A mastery % for each category
