How to Use the Heatmap

Open the Assignment:
Click anywhere in the white space of an assignment to bring up the Heatmap.

Understand the Colours & Symbols

The Heatmap updates live and uses colours and icons to show pupil progress:

  • Green: Correct on the first try

  • Yellow: Took two or more attempts to get it right

  • Red: Incorrect answer

  • Eye icon: Pupil has viewed the answer

  • Fire icon: Pupil has used Lava hints

  • Grey: No solution submitted yet

  • Number: Number of answer submissions

What You Can Learn

  • Identify pupils who breeze through problems (like Marie Curie) and might benefit from more challenging work.

  • Spot pupils who are struggling (like Albert Einstein) and may need extra practice or support.

  • Pinpoint problems where the whole class is having difficulty for targeted review.

Anonymise Pupil Data

When activated, pupil names are hidden but results are still visible. To display only pupil IDs (like “Pupil #1”), click the checkmark icon in the top right. Results will appear in blue to protect privacy.

Sort the Heatmap

Use the sort button to change how the Heatmap is organised.

Explore Problem Details

Click a problem number at the top to see all pupils’ solutions and answers for that specific question.

View Pupil Solutions

  • Click a pupil’s name to see their full set of answers and solutions for the assignment.

  • Click a specific cell to view that pupil’s solution for a particular problem (e.g., Erin’s solution for question #4).

Playback & Tools

In the bottom-right corner of a solution, you’ll find:

  • A playback button to watch how the pupil solved the problem step-by-step.

  • A pencil icon to try solving the problem yourself.

  • A flag icon to report any errors in the solution.

Common Errors: Easily spot recurring mistakes across pupil solutions to address them promptly.
