How to publish a District Book

Written by Hollie Herd

District Books are unpublished when you create them, so teachers cannot see them while you are still building. When the book is ready, you publish it to the teachers who need it.

You need district level access to do this. If you cannot see the district content area, speak to your Magma contact.

Publishing a book

  1. Go to your district dashboard and open District content.

  2. Find the book in the Books list. A book that is not yet live shows an UNPUBLISHED label.

  3. Open the book. You will see its folders, and PUBLISH BOOK in the top right.

  4. Press PUBLISH BOOK. The Publish book window opens, showing three access options under General access.

  5. Turn on the option you want using the toggle on the right, then set the detail:

    • Everyone in [years] in [schools] — pick one or more years or stages, then pick the schools. Use this for a single school or a small group of schools.

    • Everyone in [years] in the district — pick the years or stages. Every school in the district gets it.

    • Everyone in the district — no further choices. Every teacher gets it.

  6. Press PUBLISH. The button turns orange once your selection is valid.

  7. You will see the message The book has been published, and the top right button changes to UNPUBLISH.

Tip: the years list includes All years as well as the individual years or stages, so you can select everything in one click.

What teachers see

Once a book is published to them, teachers find it in their book list in the create assignment flow, alongside their own books. They do not need to add it themselves. If a teacher cannot see the book, check which years or stages and schools you published to, and check that the teacher's class is in one of them.

District assignments created from the book appear in the teacher's assignment list marked From district.

Unpublishing

Open the book and press UNPUBLISH to take it back out of teachers' book lists. You will see the message The book has been unpublished. The content is not deleted, so you can edit and republish it.
