Collect customer's VAT ID (NIP) and send it to Fakturownia
Collect customer's VAT ID (NIP) and send it to Fakturownia

Use Address line 2 for this purpose

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Shopify doesn't allow to change the checkout input fields except on Shopify Plus plan, so we created this solution that is available for everyone.

Step 0: Turn on "Collect VAT ID" option on the dashboard, and saved your settings, after that, the only thing you need to do is to change the label of the Address line 2 field. Easy to set, here are the steps:

You can definitely rename the field to whatever you prefer, for example, 'Dodaj numer NIP'. The 'Add VAT number' is just an example used in our guide and is not related to Shopify settings. The placeholder text can be anything you want. Changing the field name will not affect invoice generation, as Shopify doesn't depend on the name of the field, just on the data provided by users.

Bare in mind that Fakturownia is checking the correctness of NIP address. If this option is enabled, Fakturownia checks automatically the VAT ID (NIP) that is sent by the Shopify app using our Address Line 2 method. And if the format in incorrect, Fakturownia won't create and send a the document. Since most of the buyers don't enter their VAT ID in the correct format, it is recommended to disable this option here

Step 1 - Go to Shopify Admin » Online Store » Themes

Step 2 - Click "Edit default themes content"

Step 3 - Search for "address2" » Edit the labels as you want » Save settings

Done! The checkout page has been updated. "Address line 2" is now labeled as "VAT" as you specified. Since this option is enabled in the dashboard, any data entered in this field by the customer will appear in the VAT section of the generated document.
