KWFinder columns explained

The keyword list in KWFinder has six columns: Keywords, Trend, Search, CPC, PPC and KD.

Written by Dev + MKT

The keyword list in KWFinder has six columns: Keywords, Trend, Search, CPC, PPC and KD. Under each keyword, small badges show its search intent, SERP content types (SC), SERP features (SF) and keyword opportunities. A search by domain adds two columns, Pos and EV.

Choose which columns to show

Above the list, to the right of the Related keywords, Autocomplete and Questions buttons, select the columns icon. It opens Select data to show with 9 items:

  • Search intents, SERP content types (SC), SERP Features (SF) and Keyword opportunities: the badges under each keyword.

  • Search Volume Trend (Trend), Avg. search volume (Search), Cost Per Click (CPC), PPC Competition (PPC) and Keyword difficulty (KD): the columns.

In a search by domain, the list also offers Position and Estimated visits. Everything is shown when you start. KWFinder remembers your choice in this browser. On a phone-sized screen, Trend, CPC and PPC are hidden.

Keywords

The Keywords column lists the keyword ideas. The keyword you searched is marked as the seed keyword. Hover over the column header to see how the list is sorted, for example by relevance to your keyword.

Each row also has three small tools: the star adds the keyword to a list, Copy keyword copies it, and Search related keywords runs a new search for it.

The badges under each keyword

Under each keyword, KWFinder shows up to four groups of badges, for example "T", "SC 2" and "SF 1". They describe the keyword's Google results, so they come from the same data as its KD.

A badge with a question mark, such as "?", "SC ?" or "SF ?", means that data is not loaded yet. Its tooltip says, for example, "Click on the row to see SERP features". Select the keyword to load it, which uses one SERP lookup. Badges look faded when the keyword's KD is more than 30 days old.

The keyword list header and three rows with badges under each keyword: T, SC 2 and SF 2 on the seed keyword, ? and SC 4 on a row not loaded yet, and C, SC 3, SF 2 with opportunity icons.

Search intent: what the letters mean

The letters under a keyword show why people search for it. A keyword can have more than one:

  • N, Navigational: people are looking for a certain website or page.

  • I, Informational: people want information on a topic or an answer to a question.

  • T, Transactional: people clearly intend to buy.

  • C, Commercial: people are comparing products or services before they decide to buy.

SC: SERP content types

The SC badge counts the types of content among the top 5 Google results for the keyword. "SC 2" means KWFinder found two types. Hover over the badge to see them under "SERP content".

KWFinder recognizes 29 content types, such as Reddit Threads, YouTube Videos, Listicles, Guides, Product and Service Pages and PDF Files. If it finds none of them, the keyword has no SC badge.

SF: SERP features

The SF badge counts the special result types on the keyword's Google results page. "SF 1" means KWFinder found one. Hover over the badge to see which, under "SERP features".

KWFinder looks for six SERP features: Featured Snippet, People Also Ask, AI Overview, Shopping Ads, Map Pack and Knowledge Graph. If it finds none, the keyword has no SF badge.

Keyword opportunities

Keyword opportunities are weak spots in the top 5 Google results that a new or updated page could use. KWFinder looks for two kinds:

  • Outdated Pages: some of the top 5 results are pages over 6 months old. Update your page or create a new one.

  • Missing Title Words: some of the top 5 pages do not have all the words of the keyword in their meta title. The tooltip lists the missing words. Use all of them, in the same order, in your page's meta title.

Each kind has its own small icon under the keyword. Hover over the icon to read the details. A keyword with no weak spots has no icon.

Trend

The Trend column draws the keyword's search volume over the last 12 months. The percentage next to it is Keyword Interest Growth: the change in search volume for a recent three-month period, compared with the same months a year earlier. N/A means KWFinder has no growth figure for the keyword.

Search

The Search column shows the keyword's average monthly search volume. In a search by keyword, hover over the header to choose the period: Last known, Last 12 mo., Last 6 mo. or Last 3 mo. Search volume in KWFinder: where it comes from and why it differs explains each period and the rounding.

CPC

The CPC column shows the average cost per click for the keyword in Google Ads. KWFinder shows it in US dollars until you choose another currency.

To change the currency, hover over the CPC header and select Change currency, or press Y. Search for the currency and select it. KWFinder converts every CPC in the list, confirms with "Default CPC currency changed to" and the currency's name, and remembers it in this browser.

PPC

The PPC column shows how much competition there is among advertisers for the keyword in Google Ads. It runs from 0 to 100, and a higher number means more advertisers bid on the keyword.

In CPC and PPC, N/A means there is not enough data for a value. This usually happens when the keyword has very low or zero search volume.

KD

The KD column shows the keyword's Keyword Difficulty (KD), from 0 to 100: how hard it is to rank on the first page of Google. A magnifying glass means KD is not calculated yet, and a faded number means it is more than 30 days old. Keyword Difficulty (KD): what it means and when you see it explains the scale and how to update it.

Pos and EV in a search by domain

In a search by domain, Pos is the domain's position in Google for the keyword. EV is its estimated visits per month from the keyword. See See which keywords a competitor ranks for (Search by Domain).
