If you have attempted to link your Facebook to Markable and receive an error message, take a look at the steps below to help you determine what the cause of the failure is, and what steps to take to fix it.
NOTE: It is important to follow these steps in order to avoid having another failure. Please do not skip any steps or do them out of order, unless noted otherwise.
Before getting started: Verify Instagram is linked to Facebook
Possible Cause: Your Instagram account is not correctly linked to your Facebook account. You must have a professional Instagram account that is linked to your Facebook business Page. Follow the steps below to ensure you have both set up and linked correctly.
NOTE: You can skip to Step 1 if you already have your Facebook and Instagram accounts set up correctly.
Set your Instagram account to “Professional”
In your Instagram account, go to the Settings menu. Scroll down to the “For Professionals” category and click “Account type and tools”
Click “Switch to professional account”
Click “Next”
Choose your category, then click “Switch to professional account”
Choose what type of account suits your business needs, then click “Next”
Click “OK”
Create a Facebook business Page
While you probably already have a personal Facebook profile, you will also need to create a Facebook Page for your business.
From your personal profile, go to the Menu and find “Pages”
Click “Create”
Click “Get started”
Name your Page, then click “Next”
Choose a category, then click “Create”
Choose the goals for your Page, then click “Continue”
Link your Instagram to your Facebook Page
Even if you have your Instagram connected to your personal Facebook profile, you may still need to also link to your Facebook Page. This is the setup that Meta requires in order to use features such as AutoDM. It also helps you manage your business settings more easily.
You will need to be logged into your Facebook Page to complete these steps:
From the Menu, click “Settings & Privacy”, then click “Settings”
Scroll down to “Permissions”, then click “Linked accounts”
Click on "Instagram"
Click “Connect Account”
Click “Continue”
Enter the login credentials for your professional Instagram account, then click “Login”
Click “Log in as [your Instagram account]”
Click “Continue”
Click “OK”
Step 1: Remove Markable Chat from Facebook permissions
You will need to access your Facebook account settings and remove permissions to the Markable app before attempting to connect again. Follow the steps below to remove access:
You will need to be logged into your Facebook Profile to complete these steps:
From the Menu, check that you are logged in to your main Facebook Profile
Click the dropdown arrow to change profiles if necessary
From the Menu, click “Settings & Privacy”, then click “Settings”
Scroll down to “My Activity” and click “Apps and websites”
In your list of connected apps, find the Markable “Chat” app and click on it (If you don’t see it, skip to step 7 below)
Click “Remove”
Click “Remove” once more
If you don’t see Markable in the list of connected apps, you will need to:
Scroll down to “Preferences”
Under “Apps, websites, and games” click “Turn off”
Click “Turn off” once more
Step 2: Delete and re-download the Markable app
Now you will need to delete the Markable app from your device in order to clear the cache. This process may vary depending on your device.
NOTE: If you skip this step, you will get another error.
Press and hold the Markable app icon on your phone screen and click “Remove app”
Click “Delete app”
Click “Delete”
Open the App Store and search “Markable” (or click here)
Download the Markable app
Login to your Markable account
Step 3: Login to Facebook in the Markable app
Now it’s time to try again! If all steps were followed correctly, you should be able to successfully link your Facebook and Instagram to the Markable app. You will need to be logged into your Markable profile to complete these steps.
From the “Bio+AutoDM” tab, click “Connect with Facebook, IG & Enable Auto DM”
Enter your Facebook login credentials***
Click “Save”
Click “Turn on” (This is the setting we turned off from Facebook in Step 1!)
Click “Continue as [your Facebook profile]”
You should see your Instagram and Facebook posts populate in the Markable app
***Note: If you get to Step 2 and you see this screen, it means you did not fully remove Facebook permissions and clear the cache. You will need to start over from Step 1. You will know you’ve done it correctly when you are asked to enter your Facebook login credentials.
