By removing the extra steps (user opens their app and manually searches for your product) deep linking helps ensure that the creator receives commission for every sale generated by their content.

No, deep linking itself cannot be patented in the US because one cannot patent an idea. There are many methods to create deep linking, and while certain technologies may be patented, it would not cover every possible way deep linking could be achieved.

Facebook Messenger recently updated the app to no longer support deep links. Fortunately, Markable’s deep links will still open to the product page in the Messenger browser- with the tracking cookie still attached so you will receive commission for the sale. There is also still a way to open the links in the native apps- pictured below:

For Amazon, click the “Open this page in the Amazon app” button. For Walmart, click “Continue to website now”. You can also head to your Facebook Messenger settings and enable links to open in the external browser, which will allow the deep links to open in the native shopping app.
