We understand that having a cat with a food allergy can be extremely concerning, and identifying the cause of your cat's discomfort can be challenging.
Common signs a food allergy is affecting your cat:
Dermatological signs:
Scratching and licking around the head, neck, ears, and face
Hair loss, scabs, and sores from excessive grooming or scratching
Recurrent ear infections
Gastrointestinal signs:
Vomiting, diarrhoea, and excessive gas
Weight loss and poor coat condition
Respiratory signs are less common
What can I Do?
Firstly, we recommend you talk to a vet as soon as you notice your cat experiencing these symptoms. A vet can conduct a comprehensive physical examination and take into account your pet's complete medical history. If other potential causes are ruled out, the vet may recommend an Elimination Trial.
Elimination Trial Diet:
When starting an elimination trial diet for your cat, we recommend removing all potential allergens, especially common proteins, from their diet to monitor symptom relief. Replace these proteins with a novel protein diet, which would be proteins your cat doesn’t typically eat.
Over 8 to 12 weeks, gradually reintroduce one allergen to see if symptoms reappear. Simply pick one of our single-source protein pouches—chicken, turkey, fish, or beef—and use it exclusively for an 8-week period. If your cat exhibits a reaction similar to the ones listed above, it’s likely they’re allergic to that protein. If there's no reaction, that's fantastic news! Your cat can safely enjoy that meal in the future. You can repeat this process with each protein over an 8-week period to identify, and avoid, the allergen.
How Marro can help?
At Marro, we're dedicated to supporting you in managing your cat's allergies and improving their healthy and happiness.
Our pouches feature single-sourced protein, eliminating the blending of meats and allowing us to precisely identify potential irritants for your cat. We also offer Scrumptious Pork, a unique protein source uncommon in cats' diets. Additionally, you will never find wheat, corn, soy or sugar added to any of our meals. This allows us to lessen the potential allergen triggers, and swiftly identify what protein is causing your cat irritation and distress.
